The 'Nucks have been too reluctant to let underperformers go in recent years - Cloutier and the Sedin sisters being prime examples.
I wouldn't want Cujo or other aging vets, and Auld isn't the answer (he didn't even play for the Moose during their playoffs) - but something has to change, hopefully by mid-season.
Without getting into whether it's right or not, it's great that Bertuzzi is free to play right away - makes him more marketable to trade.
The biggest immediate problem is on the backend - they need to fill the holes left by Malik and Sopel. Resigning Sami Salo today is good, but not enough.Comment

The problem is who to replace Cloutier with. Khabiboulin was the only big name goalie out there, and you'd think that given Cloutier's solid regular season performances, he'll come around in the playoffs eventually - he wasn't looking too bad before he went down in 2003. I guess they could have tried to get Thibault. Not sure if that would have been an improvement.
Beyond that, who really is a proven playoff performer that would be A) available for trade and B) not geriatric?
