  • Philippines in December

    Bump this please.

Planning on a trip in early December, staying through until early May. We've talked to several Poly people interested in making the trip. Well, if you were serious this is the place to make it happen. If interested, inquire here.

Right now we're working with our agent to arrainge flights. So, if you want to be kept up on the goings on to coordinate arrivals in Cebu or arrainge a pick up at the airport, post here. If you don't travel with us we can have family meet you in Cebu and bring you to the port for the boat to our island, Bohol. Then, we'll meet you in Tagbilaran, Bohol. We can also arrainge really cheap, very high quality accomodations (The Waterfront Hotel) in Cebu if you want a break in your travels.

Zkribbler and Theben both used the place and really liked it.

    Philippines Poly meet II!

      Check.

My exams will end half-way February, so I'd probably join sometime between that and May.

        Lancer:

I'm a no go, and I'll tell you that right now. Plenty has happened in the last few days to really change how things are going to be over the next while.

I'm going to be wrapping up my school!

Colon, we'll be looking forward to meeting you finally. Does Cathay Pacific fly out of an airport near you? Do you have a good discounter? We would be paying $2000 to $3000 at our downtown travel agent, instead we use a discounter and will get a ticket for around $1,000.

Ben, that's fine, I know you'll be making the trip someday and will look forward to seeing you then.

Flying to the Phillipines for a 'poly meet? Now that takes some giant sized dedication. Anyone doing that should at the least get a free t-shirt.

Lancer, I'm still speaking in hypotheticals, just saying so you know. (but my mind is all for it)

I put my lazy ass to work and found out I can fly with Lufthansa from Brussels to Manilla to the tune of €800-900 (tax incl) I can fly with Cathay from Amsterdam but that costs me more like €1100-1200.

Well, the longer you wait for booking a flight, the more it will cost. I booked my last one to New Zealand with Airstop half a year in advance, and it costed me only € 1050, insurance included.

Ozzy, it's more than just for a Poly meet. It's a chance for people to see another culture. However, if you need a T shirt, I think I can spare you one. How you set for underwear?

Colon, that seems like a good deal, but you want to end up in Tagbilaran. Make sure your agent adds the Manila-Tagbilarin leg of the trip in. Also, we don't have a way to set you up with a cheap place to stay in Manila, just in Cebu. It's nice to rest after that long flight.

Christmas is a fun time to be there, though a bit noisy. There are lots of carolers coming by, a few things going on, and lots of lights & decorations. People try to get home for Christmas. Another possibility is joining us in the spring, and ending your trip with May fiesta as we do. Anytime is good though, whatever makes you happy. :b

Here's a good map of the Phils.

You can see Manila near the top with the inset map, then Cebu, Cebu about 3/5ths of the way down and Tagbilaran, Bohol just below it.

GeoModder is correct, but don't buy anything until we have our tickets, which should happen within the next few weeks.

till May of next year ehh?. I may be able to get some time off in march or april. But really 2007 is better for me. I may only get 1 week of vacation in 2006. Doesn't seem to be enough time to fly all that way (which requires nearly a day to fly out there- and many beers on the plane)

Diss, a week is not enough. You wouldn't even be recovered from jetlag before you would have to start the return trip. Even two weeks is hardly enough. I did two weeks once so I know. Two weeks as an absolute minimum. Also, if you can get even a couple of extra days it helps. Sixteen days over 14. With 6 days traveling and recovering time subtracted, 14 days becomes 8. 16 becomes 10. So, in a way, a 2 day increase adds 1/5 more relaxing time to your trip. For me, I consider 3 weeks to be the shortest time I'd ever go for, and maybe a month. A month gives you time to put your feet up.

You have to put up with some inconveniences to live in paradise. It's not like the Phils don't get hit with typhoons. Plus, they have volcanoes.
