  • I just got my first work-related injury

I sprained my ankle playing soccer on my work campus.

It hurts like a *****, but unfortunately they made me sign a waiver before playing.

    Sports.

Yes, I think that is Japher's point.

          That and your crappy ankle.

I went to the reception desk thing to get an ice pack...they went up in a cupboard and gave me this plastic bag icepack thing that was room temperature. I looked at her kind of weird...she smiled and said "it's a magic icepack". It's one of those ones where it's two compartments inside the bag, and when you squeeze the top one down so it bursts into the bottom pouch, it instantly becomes ice cold. Was very cool. Literally, also.

            I am easily impressed.

At "safety down day" last year they showed us statistics for which research directorates reported the most injuries. The Information Directorate (i.e., the nerds) came out far in the lead, with the most frequently reported injuries being things like "falling off of a chair" and "walking into a door." In contrast, the Munitions Directorate (who I'd expect to report the most injuries) hardly reported any injuries at all, but when you consider that they sometimes have "oh my god everybody else is dead" drills for the Munitions folks (where half of the people in the building pretend to be dead, and the other half then have to crawl over the "corpses" of their fallen comrades to evacuate the building) I suppose that they'd be less likely to report "falling off of a chair" and "walking into a door" type injuries, with the reasoning that "well, at least I'm not dead." Nevertheless, I do believe that nerds tend to be more injury-prone than non-nerds, especially when it comes to playing sports or falling off of a chair or suffering from Mountain Dew and/or coffee induced heart palpitations.

This is my first substantive injury.

Played baseball for 4 years and soccer for 6, but never twisted/sprained/broken a bone before.

Ice packs are foreign to me! The only ones I'd seen before are the ones you put in the freezer.

                        Is this topic even threadworthy.

Must be desperate to use this as your second thread of the day.

I'm bored, why did you bother commenting on it?
