Victor Hugo Flores, a 30-year-old bond salesman, cringed when asked what he thought of Fox's comment, but said it isn't too different from popular sayings celebrating what Mexicans see as a strong work ethic among blacks.
"Strong worth ethic" my ass, the black steretype is more like "slave worker who works at the crack of a whip" than that. Still it is a very common saying, and honestly does not imply racism since at least in Mexico the only time there have been a significant number of blacks in the country was during the colonial era and yes, they were slaves (interestingly enough they ended up assimilating entirely with the indian population).

Knowing how PC the world is these days, Fox should've just shut up and not said that comment. Still, leave it to the media to blow up whatever someone (*tsk* tsk* Jews) even remotely implies racism or something similar. What Fox probably meant to say was that blacks, which have traditionally been the major and most exploited minority in the US now are a bit up the economic ladder and don't do the jobs that Mexicans would do.

So no, it's not really a racist comment and Jesse Jackson can stick a piñata up his ass for all I care.

Our racism is mostly directed at indians. Calling someone an "indio" is an insult. Likewise calling someone "prieto" (a despective way of saying dark brown skin like indians have) is also rather insultish.

Are you including Clinton's welfare reform package in your list of Reagan-Bush anti-African American boogeymen?
What, now you're saying a welfare change is a minority rights change?

Are you implying blacks are the only ones on welfare?

                RACIST

You are wrong. 39% of welfare recipients are white and 37% of them are black.

"But blacks only compose 12% of the population!"

                RACIST

There is a poverty rate of 33% amongst blacks, they still suffer the injustices of our awful past in some ways. And we should expect to find the poor on welfare lists, shouldn't we?

(Whites "only" have a 10% poverty rate. Both rates are too high.)

Quick, name the black members of Congress in the GOP. Compare that to the number of black Democrats in congress.

It's already been pointed out that the vast majority of blacks vote overwhelmingly Democratic, so it's only logical that the Democrats would lead in the number of elected black officials. In terms of appointed officials however, the Republicans have given blacks (and Hispanics, for that matter) better access to important posts.

Why is it that Republicans turn a blind eye to unrepentant racists like Helms, but someone like Byrd who has recanted his past, both in word and deed, is held to a different standard? Oh, right--he's a Democrat, so...

I hate both Byrd and Helms, as all decent people should. I'm certainly not going to defend Helms; that would be as offensive and stupid as apolgizing for Byrd's remarks about "white ******s"...

although Fox put in perhaps a wrong way, he was correct in the fact that America relegates many ethnic groups to the often ugly but allways necessary job position of janitor or whatever (dishwasher or garbage person)

that being said you wont give an alien (foreigner) whom may not speak the best English or cant perform to a cerrtain level a good position if they do not have certain skills behind them

wait we do that now through affirmative action??

He was being honest and unfortunately America is not ready for an Honest Politician now are we?

Are you suggesting only predominantly black areas vote for black candidates? Tell that to Obama.

Besides, as I pointed out in the Watts case, the GOP hasn't exactly been accomodating of blacks in their ranks. Blacks in the Democratic caucus enjoy some of the most senior positions.

In terms of appointed officials however, the Republicans have given blacks (and Hispanics, for that matter) better access to important posts.
This is simply untrue. To this day, the Clinton administration has the record for appointees of blacks (15 cabinet heads and 485 sub-cabinet positions), as well as, to this day, the most Hispanic judicial appointees ever.

I hate both Byrd and Helms, as all decent people should.
Then hopefully you can see how stupid it was to make a statement like you did about the Democrats being the "party of Byrd."

I'm certainly not going to defend Helms; that would be as offensive and stupid as apolgizing for Byrd's remarks about "white ******s"...
I'm all for calling Byrd on his real racist past, when it was warranted. But harping on the "white ******s" comment as being anything other than a stupid statement is not only disingenuous, it cheapens the debate about racism. I asked you before: go ahead and cite the whole context of the comment. It's patently clear to anyone with a brain that he was, in a completely inept and boneheaded way, making a statement against racism.

No, I'm saying that the party that most black people affiliate themselves with will obviously have more elected black representatives. This isn't rocket science...

Please note that I said "important posts". Giving appointed minorities real responsibility shows the Bush Administration isn't just engaging in tokenism.

Then hopefully you can see how stupid it was to make a statement like you did about the Democrats being the "party of Byrd."

It's not any stupider than labelling the Republicans the "party of racism." Excuse me for fighting fire with fire.

I never got that impression. Seemed like he was using "******" as a negative term, which is repugnant even if the targets of the slur were white.

At any rate, I doubt you would be so forgiving if an ex-Klansmen who happened to be a Republican used the word "******" on national TV.

Not all Republicans are racist. But I'm willing to bet 90% of racists are Republican. That should say something to you
