It takes a lot of tokens to change people's mind after one Trent lot getting up on TV and saying the country would have been better off if segregationists had won. That was just a couple of years ago and many blacks are going to identify that with the repugs more then Condi Rice.
Meaning while in the minds of black Americans the Democrats are always going to be the party that fought for equal civil rights while the repugs were the ones who tried to keep segregation alive.

Why don't people change their minds about the Democrats when Robert Byrd gets on TV and talks about ******s?

Democrats (including Byrd) were the ones who filibustered the Civil Rights Act, slick...

I imagine Byrd was seen as one bad apple in an other wise good group of people while the repugs are viewed, as a whole, to be a cartload of bad apples with the occational good one.
That's not likely to change especially since blacks see all the major Bush & Reagan "reforms" helping rich white folks and cutting services poor black folks depend upon.
Quick, name the black members of Congress in the GOP. Compare that to the number of black Democrats in congress.
Who had more minorities in his administration overall, Bush or Clinton?
"The Party of Robert Byrd" - Pathetic. So I guess the GOP is the "The Party of Jesse Helms?"
Yeah, its pretty sad when the only way some lackey like Drake can link the Dems. to racism is to talk about a southern senator who has been there for 40 years plus-and who gets re-elected all the time by the fine folks who also vote for Georgie boy....
Honestly, I should become a black republican- that way, I will never want a job- heck, all 20 of them are fully employed. Got's to make sure to keep up the smokes screen.

That was JC Watts, think he resigned over the Crusader fiasco.
Watts didn't run again because the GOP had given pretty strong indications it didn't want him in a senior leadership position and felt he was being used as a token. A shame, since he was a conservative with quite a bit of integrity.

You mean when he was talking about white people? Wow, you're such a hack!
Democrats (including Byrd) were the ones who filibustered the Civil Rights Act, slick...
And what did most of the racist Dixiecrats do in subsequent years? Hmmm, they migrated over to... *drumroll* the Republican Party! They formed the backbone of its Southern strategy, in fact.
You get an A in disingenuity, but an F in actual knowledge.

It's really unfair to use facts when arguing with conservatives, Boris.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.
And what did most of the racist Dixiecrats do in subsequent years?
So to recap, it was the democrats who filibustered against Civil Rights. Thanks Boris

Wow Boris the fact that the word plays so prominant a role in his vocabulary speaks so well for the man doncha think. Regardless of actual context. Applying it to whitey gets him his pass, that and the fact that he is a Dem. Nevermind the fact he was the principle filibusterer of the civil rights act. Ohh but I forgot times change and people change right?

But apparaently times and people don't change when it comes to these particular dixiecrats.
Who gets the A in disingenuity? Why it would appear to be you B.

Only by having the block of republicans sign on en-masse else it would have been held up IIRC.
