Because of the past f uckups of the US regarding torture:

      1) Abu Gharib

      2) Guantanamo -- holding innocents without charging them

Our credibility in the Muslim world has pretty much been trashed. So when they heard the story, of course they believed it, as we've done far worse things already, they weren't suprised to hear the story.

That memo set a policy and that policy is why these stupid things have happened.

The link is clear as day to see.

The ones who have accused gitmo torture are saying stress positions, which definitely IS torture, one of the most famous and oldest forms of it. To debate if it is torture or not is freaking ****** debate and shows what spinning can do to weak minds. Anything from static pain to .. well to anything is considered torture when it lasts long. A test of static pain is easy. Take heavy bags into both hands. Now don't let them down. Put 30 pounds of each of the bags and hold them for 20 minutes straight. Can't do it? Don't move. Don't twitch. Hold them. Your arms start hurting and you feel like your joints will come out of their place? Fingers are seriously getting streched and it feels like you have knives in your hands? This is the moment where I come and strap those babies in your hand so you can't let them down and make you stay in that position. Back starts hurting? Bro we got few hours to go.... or more, who knows. Here, put a hood over your head so you don't have too much of your senses working. Here, here's some ear plugs, so you won't hear too much or see too much. Great way to loose the sense of time. Oh you think you've been there for half a day? It's just 30 minutes bro, keep on going. We haven't even started with the STRESS POSITIONS yet, the next level of this game.

If they are used or not, that I don't know. There are claims, sure. If it's true or not, I don't know. But these practices are DEFINITELY torture and one fo the worst forms of it, and extremely physical. You ever seen people walk funny? Some torture victims have pains that never leaves, just from stress positions. Some of them walk funny, because their.. ... how do you say it.. 'motorics' are ****ed up after that crap done long enough. Etc etc etc.

The topic of the thread ISN'T about how the muslim world read the story - it is about the bad quality of the newsweek research of the story.

I know It's Oerdins thread, but I think he will agree.

If the theme of the thread was torture, yes, it would be true, but the issue are the false history in newsweek and how it got printed.

Unlike your previous post that actually has some evidence to back it up.

No, some Americans too. I would have commented in this thread if it had remained on topic, but unfortunately the back seat activists have turned it into an American bashing thread.
