Is that a reason for not checking if it is true or not ?
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Too easy but anyway: How do you know these activists dont know what they are talking about? Most information comes from former prisoners, some from the red cross and even the FBI. I'd say they know a lot more about this subject then anyone on this forum or the general public.
You could ask a 5 year old whether it's nicer to pressure people or not to pressure them. But that doesn't make him an expert on the situations where such pressure is likely to occur.
And... after several hints have already been given, I'd like to ask if it wouldn't be more appropriate to start a new thread on "torture", instead of continuing to threadjack what I consider to be a very important subject by itself.

What are you talking about ? The newsweek journalists are in US not Afghanistan.

I thought that the OP was supposed to start a discussion about the results of bad journalism but I seem to be wrong.
That was what I wanted to discuss. I doubt anything will happen to Newsweek other then they'll catch some flack from their cometitors for the next few days and maybe a few of us who pay attention will trust them a little less in the future. I wish something would happen to them to punish them for publishing unsupported rumors based on the word of one source who really couldn't back up his claim with details. I know editors are under pressure to sell papers and sensationalist stories is a good way to pump up sales but dropping a bomb like the original claim will end up getting people killed. In deed 15 people were killed in riots in Afghanistan the day it was published.
Shouldn't media companies be a bit more careful about checking their sources when the story might get people killed?

So you're saying former prisoners cant judge if they were tortured or not becouse they are not experts on torture????

Well judging from your post you're happily joining in the threadjack so stop complaining
The really sad part is they new the factual basis for the story was shaky and ran with it anyway. What kind of breakdown in procedure has to happen for that to occur?

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
That's Abu Gerrab not Gitmo and that was always illegal. The people who did that are in jail now.
According to the Memo that was approved by the White House, fixed positions are legal, and the memo was specifically prepared by Alberto Gonzales for the War on Terror, before anyone ever stepped foot in Iraq.

IT IS 100% relavent to the topic at hand and is directly related to the story.
