On further reflection, this would seem not only cruel but stupid, trying to get someone to talk via a method of torture that severely restricts breathing. They don't seem to have let him down at all, how was he supposed to say anything?

Yes, Abu Ghraib does seem to have been an out of control hell hole without any meaningful supervision.

Shawn: I'm puzzled by the blood out of the mouth as it seems if properly done this "hanging technique" won’t hurt someone if he stands but if he tries to sit then all of his weight will twist his arms up and back. Wouldn't that result in dislocation of the shoulders? The only source of the blood which came out of his mouth (that I can think of) is one of the broken ribs punctured his lung.

Do we know how he got the broken ribs? How was he captured and did he resist arrest (thus causing the SEALs to use force, maybe excessive force)?

There's good and bad in this. The bad is, this kind of things do happen. The good is, they got caught, showing again that this kind of behaviour is not generally tolerated. I feel 10 years is too little, but then again, it is 10 years, it counts for something even if we would feel someone needs to serve more. Then again I come from country where sentence this long is RARE so I feel it's up to par. COuld be more though.

Frankly, I'm sick of the US being gripped at while people who are just as bad or worse get a blind eye turned to them.

I will never support this kind of torture by my country, but I am sick of people screaming so loud at us and remaining silent to the other side.
