If it's cheaper and you can stand it, then go with the bus. If it was me, I might consider a bus from Vancouver to Seattle and then take the train the rest of the way.

For my aforementioned trips from DC to NYC, iirc, the train cost $10 more and took 1/3rd the time.

Granted, but in this case the price points are not very good for doing that, bus and then train. I can get a one way ticket to SA from Vancouver for about 110 USD and it would cost me 50 CDN just to go from Vancouver to Seattle.

Kind of, but more to get a feel of a trip, rather than having to rush.

Then again, I'm not the best person to talk about this since I don't like travelling in the sense of being in transportation, unless it's a nice one like a boat or something. So.. a bus might be what you are looking for after all.

If you want to see US in a way where you can kind of check out what's in between the points, then one must take a car and drive.

Yup. Well, I bet you have a longer temper than I do so you should have good times with bus too. I just hate taking a bus . Then again I hate taking the train too..

You see more via a bus than a train since most of the time tracks are kind of isolated from everything else while bus do go thru communities.

that depends if you want to see man made objects or nature built.

I'd rather take a train that has different views from what you see from the road. You'd be more likely to go through unspoiled territory (aside from the railroad service roads)

Ok, I have the ticket, and the only decent stopover is at the LA greyhound bus depot.

I'll be there for 3 hours on the 25th of May, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm, and would be willing to meet any of the LA polytubbies inclined to come out

Have you been to LA, Ben?

It's a big city. Huge. And a terror to get around.

It's gonna be rough getting people excited about driving from, say, Anaheim to downtown LA (30 minutes each way if the traffic is with you) so they can hang around a bus stop for 3 hours.

Also, you need an address for the bus stop. There are at least 15 Los Angeles area stops. The main terminal is downtown at

according to Greyhound. Is that the one you meant?

Have I ever been there? No. Do I know where in LA the polytubbies who live there live? no. I just thought I'd ask and see if anyone was interested at all.
