        January 1st:

        Israel's New Year's Resolution

Israel has partly mobilized its military reserves, augmenting its current forces. New training initiatives have been announced, although no specifics have been released. The Knesset also voted to increase investment in the defense industry, focusing partly on munitions manufacturing and other infrastructure necessary to support continued military operations, and partly in R&D. Vague rumors about a nuclear program have elicited "no comment" from Israeli officials.

        February 27th:

        Israel Denies Egyptian Allegations

Israel denied today Egyptian allegations of incursions into its territory, which had caused significant recent tension between the two countries. Israel claimed that the troop movements along the border were "training maneuvers" and that no hostilities are intended. When asked if and for how long the maneuvers would continue, Israeli officials had "no comment".

        April 3rd:

Hostilities Break Out Along Egypt-Israel Border!

According to Isreali officials, Egyptian soldiers opened fire on Israeli troops engaged in training maneuvers on the Israeli side of the border. Egyptian officials claim the reverse. While the Israeli Foreign Ministry is scrambling to prevent a full-scale war, there is strong support in the Knesset for offensive operations into the Sinai desert.

Orders: Army size, effectiveness get boosts, as well as manufacturing base and tech. Overall discontent rises with the increased taxes, and the economy fluctuates unpredictably, on one hand boosted by the increased investment and on the other damaged by the higher taxes.

EDIT: I realized the dates are off. Just add six months to each, and ignore the "New Year" thing

The goverment accepts the resolution for sponsoring several industries. These are wood, paper, and metal industries. Sponsoring includes building new factories and repairing old, and buying new machines. The reason of this is to speed up the paying the reparations USSR commanded after the Continatuanal War.

          Orders:
Slowly improve wood/paper and metal industry to speed up the paying of the war reparation to USSR.

                          China

Agriculture: research is underway to investigate the best use of various sort of soils and environs, from planting trees (either for wood, for fruit, or for retention of top soil and water) to planting other cash crops (cocoa, flowers, etc.) instead of planting cereals. Methods of enriching soils and increase yields (e.g. rotations, planting cereals with soy beans, etc.) are also being studied. A research institute specifically for increasing the yield of rice is established.

Industries: It is decided that existing industries, such as those in Manchuria, will be updated for more modern technology. Negotiations with the USSR is underway to acquire more modern equipment and/or technology for production.

Villages: Farmers are permitted to retain a larger plot of land where they can plant crops for themselves to be sold on the free markets instead of to the country at a fixed price. They are further permitted to increase the number of chickens and pigs they can keep.

City development: It is decided that SE coastal areas will be developed first.

International affairs: the development on the Korean peninsula is constantly monitored. Formal diplomatic relationships are being sought with various Third World countries, esp. those in the Non-Allied Movement, and other communist countries including the DDR and Yugoslavia. A propaganda war has been started at Taiwan (ROC).

Transportation: constructions of various railways are currently being considered and planned.

Intelligence/counterintelligence: other than the usual watch for counter-revolutionaries and foreign agents, Fujian province (nearest to Taiwan) is on the look out for Taiwan spies. We of course are trying to establish our own in the rogue province.

Research: foreign Chinese researchers are being contacted secretly to see if they wish to come back and help their motherland.

Army: a slow buildup in the area near Korea.

                                July through December 1950

                                Poloxia
Poloxians mourn the loss of their brave leader Steve and also hope for the return of Frenchy. Meanwhile Mike Cyzinski has taken over, and while citizens do not feel as connected to him as they did to Steve and Frenchy, they respect his visionary goal of making Poloxia the dishwasher capital of the “free” world, and increasing income by exporting these finely engineered and cheerfully colored machines.

                                East Germany
The General Electoral Law ensures democracy, and, as a testament to its justness and effectiveness, has faithfully passed on the wishes of the valorous German workers in favor of the Socialist Party. Almost unanimously, in fact. Well, give the people what they want
A rebuilding policy has been set, heavily favoring certain major population and industrial centers for rebuilding, leaving the rest of the country with significantly less aid. Still, hopes are high that this targeted restructuring will provide the necessary impetus to eventually modernize the rest of the country as well.
East Germany’s policy on social and gender equality is remarkably progressive, even putting most Western nations to shame. The capitalist countries mostly scoff at the socialist policy to attain “equal miserableness”, and indeed poverty and what some would call bureaucratic oppression still abounds in East Germany, but the policy of equality is a major source of pride for the people of East Germany.

                                Yugoslavia
The Secret Police are cracking down hard on foreign agents and potential political adversaries, and a diplomatic rift has opened up between Yugoslavia and the USSR. Some wonder what role Yugoslavia will play on the world stage following this estrangement. (SECRET: Western nations are open to the idea of an alliance with Yugoslavia, but are skeptical about the Communist ideology. They will speak to the U.S. and hear its view.). Loans are being granted to Yugoslavia, though not many and at merely reasonable interest rates. Still, it helps, especially with the financial requirements of Yugoslavia’s new public works project, which provide employment, and, if conditions are favorable, will pave the way for modest economic improvement. Yugoslavia’s leadership is also confident about the state of the Armed Forces, citing Yugoslavian resilience and spirit as making expansions unnecessary.
The UN approves the transfer of the occupation zones back to Yugoslavian control, on condition of equal representation for the populace.

                                Finland
Targeted industrial investment is providing fairly steady growth for Finland, with increasing domestic and foreign consumption and government aid helping out several key industries, such as timber products and raw materials extractors and refiners.

                                Israel
Israel mobilizes and improves its military readiness, which is a good thing, because tensions with Egypt quickly erupted into open hostilities. Egypt, smarting from its recent defeat, has not yet launched an offensive, but things could quickly escalate into another all out war. Analysts worry that other Arab nations may also join in once again in attacking Israel.

                                China
Grand plans have been drawn up for a varied and large scale application of vegetation for commercial and preservation purposes, and the government is making good use of slave laborers the eager students of the reeducation program to provide the necessary labor.
Attempts are being made to upgrade and expand mechanical industries, and while the USSR is willing to supply older industrial equipment, much of which it acquired from Manchuria in the first place, up-to-date-equipment is much more difficult to acquire, so simple and robust industries--not efficient and advanced--are still the rule across almost all of China.
Labor and collectivization commissions have allowed a certain amount of private control in peasants’ agricultural efforts, which has given great benefits to those that are able to sell; but this has dampened their enthusiasm for the collective system, and collective-produced prices are less appealing. Not that most peasants have much of a choice in where they get their food.
The cities of the Southeast coastal region will soon receive attention for renovation.
Rail and transportation networks are being considered and planned. Some consider military application the first priority for where roads should be placed, some few believe the economic implications of transportation should be the deciding factor in placement.
Diplomatic efforts have opened up communications with various Second and Third World countries, although no conclusive accords have yet been reached.
One are of particularly active “diplomacy” is the Nationalist breakaway of Taiwan, where major efforts are underway to court the population back to China. Where agents are able to do their job undisturbed they often have a fair amount of success in creating sympathetic sentiments, but the Nationalist Government is cracking down hard on any Communist sympathizers, just as mainland China is on the lookout for Nationalists.
(SECRET: A few foreign Chinese researchers have returned, but so far most are difficult to come into contact with, and many do not wish to return.)
The military is moving up into the border areas with Korea.

                                Australia
The ships are beginning to roll out of those shipyards…While the rest of the continent, apparently under the organization of a man known only as Xen, throws one gigantic party. For 6 months. Many governments have sent official inquiries as to why none of the tourists there ever returned.

                                USA
The legislative roadblock continues, and there are indications that in the coming elections voters may decide to replace the apparently unproductive national legislators and executives.

                                Cuba
Fidel Castro and his revolutionaries have suddenly seized control of Cuba, and are seeking close ties with the USSR. Also, large, reinforced structures are reportedly in the early stages of construction in a few places around the island. For agricultural purposes, of course.

                                Other News

North Korea has finished conquering South Korea. The United Nations committed over 30 thousand soldiers to the South’s side, but without the US, were unable to arrive soon enough or in significant enough numbers to effect the outcome. Less than 20 thousand UN soldiers had landed before they had to be evacuated off the peninsula. There are still small bands of local and civilian resistance here and there in the South, but with the North’s powerful military right there to enforce their will, Korea has been reunited under the banner of the North.
