            • Persia Weekly World News
Persia is beginning plans for the building of a great three sided three dimesional triangle with gold mounting hte top.
Persian emperors have publicly stated that this IS NOT in any way supposed ot resemble the Egyptian Pyramids, although many people have confused the miniature prototype models with certain geometric figures which have been known to resemble those seen in or around the Egypt area.
Persia has created a national holidayt in which nothing really changes, and all of the people still work the full day. WHile they aren't allowed to do anything crazy like eating cake, or singing, they are allowed otwear state issued hats that have been certiified "funny" and mildly "outrageous" by a Persian comittee dedicated to the rating of such festive garb.
Lysistrata: It comes down to this: Only we women can save Greece.
Kalonike: Only we women? Poor Greece!

                      • UPDATE - 300 to 295 b.c.

                        Middle East
When the Persian secret police arrived at Jerusalem, the "Jewish conspiracy group" was nowhere to be found. However, two secret agents have been abducted and later on killed by members of the secret society of Judaean Jews. The group has gained much support amongst locals, especially since the Persians officially fight them.
There have been many meetings in secret , and the militants are well-armed with latest equipment. There must be some source of money for them, maybe nearby, but maybe even abroad...

Down at the Western coast of the Sinai peninsula, the great king has founded a new colony named Attur. While food is rare at that place, the mountain chains in the region hold vast resources of copper, gold and iron!
Right now, the mining town has only a few hundred inhabitants, for it is tough to get people settling there in the desert... However, even small amounts of precious metals generate a respectable income...
One setback though is the very hostile stance of the local tribes. Somehow they refuse contact with Persia and insist in a Persian withdrawal from the land of their ancestors. Also many Arabic peoples in the region behave similarily. Strange, such grade of coordination is quite uncommon amongst these tribes...

While the empire expands and the Jews start making trouble in Palaestina, the Persian army intesifies its training program. In fact, today´s officiers have a far better education and military training than their predecessors, which results in better discipline amongst the troops and better performance at non-standard tactics.

                        Tributes:
Egypt paid 18 talents in war indemnities; Other tributes add up to 21 talents

                        Greece and Asia Minor

                        Macedonia
When the old king Antigonus died, his son Demetrius immediately took power. Since his policy was quite the same as his father´s, the population accepted him, though he had yet to prove his qualities. The military had sworn loyality to Alexander, back then in the old days, not to Macedonia. Amongst the soldiers he had to earn respect by action, not by title...

A first royal act was the incorporation of the almost completely destroyed town of Lissos into the kingdom. With quite some funding the most important quarters could have been rebuilt, giving the locals a base to recover. Those who survived the barbarian slaughter are vastly disappointed of their former protectors in Magna Graecia, since they didn´t even bothered placing a garrison in the town. So most people here are supporting the change to Macedonian rule...

The Macedonian army had reached Tragurion quite quickly, despite the siege equipment they were taking with them.
The Illyrian highlanders weren´t used to defending towns, but they decided to do so anyways. Now Tragurion has no fortifications, and being situated at the coast with mountains at the back it wasn´t a strategically good place either. Still, the highlanders fought with valour.
During the battle the Macedonian catapults destroyed almost all buildings within the town, and when the Illyrians finally drew back they torched what was left of this place. Civilians... a few have fled to the mountains, but most have been killed. After eight days the settlement was completely obliterated, but the Illyrians had to take heavy casualties, which was far more important for the Macedonian general.
Advancing further north would have stretched the supply lines too far, and the territories conquered by now aren´t secured either. So the army erected a camp at the ruins of the town and is now awaiting further orders.

To the south, Alexandrograd is developing quickly into a major economic center of northern Egypt. With the improving infrastructure a healthy aristocratic population has settled near the temple complexes, further boosting income to the region.
Now the city even has its own guard unit, a mighty phalanx of hoplites! The citizens are truely proud of their hometown.

                        Aegian Sea
With the peace treaty of Delos, all islands north of that town have been returned to Macedonian rule. With no warships left, piracy has stopped completely, while Crete spends much money on building up the already very large harbour (and the wharves) at Delos.

                        Lydia

                        Italian peninsula
With the end of the martial law in Rome, when dictator Laurentius stepped back from power and retired, the citizens of the Republic entered a golden age of culture! Although the official funds allocated to the Circus maximus project weren´t covering the costs, rich patricians donated the missing talents.
Rome was now a thriving metropolis and together with Athens the cultural center of the known world.

With seventhousand fresh soldiers the four legions have been reinforced to full strength, and they are now securing the remnants of Etruria. Especially up in the hills there is a strong anti-Roman sentiment, leading to several ambushs on supply wagons, which has cost the army some efficiency...

The former dictator´s legion has been chasing the Etrurian army for several months, finally encountering it in the hills close to the po valley. With numerical superiority of 12 to 1 the Romans won the battle, although the Ethruscians didn´t surrender but put up quite a fight! With minor losses the legionaries charged into the hill camp, completely annihilating the last organized resistance to the north.
The Aquileans seem to have left for good, but many of the chieftains in the valley are hostile towards Roman expansion. With the Macedonians advancing along the Illyrian coast, the many tribes in the region are pressing eastward, crowding the fertile valleys of upper italy and even advancing further south into the peninsula. This might lead to future conflicts....

                        Western Mediterranean
In Carthage the people seem to relax after the trouble of the past years. While the army is continuing its training program, Greek philosophers are teaching in the capital of the Punic empire. There are even some Athenican schools, spreading their knowledge amongst the younger generation.

Meanwhile at Carthago Nova the "Guardian of the West" is slowly growing to reckognizable shapes. Now both legs have been finished, shining in the morning sun above the harbour entrance.
The merchants and local citizens are getting an impression on what the finished statue would look like, and they even start discussion possible mythological meanings of the project...

                          • OOC Looks good.

                            Macedonia to Persia :

The Athenians and us have many fine craftspeople and engineers capable of helping you to build your trigamids. They would be willing to augment your project for a mere 16 talents [OOC: of which the Macedonian government would collect 4 talents in taxes].

                            Battle Orders

Rename Alexandrograd Guard to Southern Guard.
Split off 40 triremes from the Macedonian Battlefleet and station them in Alexandrograd. This navy will be called the Pharos Fleet.
Army of Alexander is to rest and recoup at Tragurion (for a little while, not long enough to get into mischief).
The Army of Alexander will be put through wargames, as will the Macedonian Army, a little later. The King will personally attend both (no fanfare or pompousness) to see how they go and confer with his generals on the state of the army. Of course, the King’s wife and a few servants and bodyguards are also attending, but no one is making too much of that.

                            Expenditures

                            5 talents; peasant aid
24 talents to Athens (20 remain outstanding)
12 talents; 1000 hoplites for the Attic Defense Force
14 talents; 1000 swordsmen for the Attic Defense Force
5 talents; build an army camp outside of the ruins of Tragurion
15 talents; begin rebuilding Tragurian for citizens (for whoever remains of the originals, friendly Moesians, and Greeks)
                            6 talents; more Lissos rebuilding
6 talents; additional field practice for Army of Alexander
6 talents; additional field practice for Macedonian Army
20 talents; develop that gold vein (that was in the first or second update)
Those walls are absent of glory as they always have been. The people of tents will inherit this land.
