  • Magna Graecia to Macedonia
We demand the immediate withdrawal of Macedonian troops from our cities of Tragurion and Lissos! We expect the lands to be returned to us within six months from now.
Oh, and thanks for your assistance in beating back the barbarians. By the way, you do notice that there is inferior folks wandering with your army? You won´t ally with savages, will you?

    Lydia to Macedonia
Dear friends, we have noticed you got back most of the islands lost to those filthy pirates... Now we wonder whether we could ask you something...
Our economy had been hit hard by the Pirate expansion, and now we need sea ports in order to get on our feet again...
We would be interested in Lesbos, Chios, Samos and Ikaria. Though not very rich in themselves, they would provide the harbours that we need! And since you don´t really need them... What do you think?

    • Rome to Magna Graecia

Ave! This is Appius Claudius speaking. I am one the two consuls appointed by the senate after Laurentius Aemilus had stepped down. There will be a formal notification of the normalisation of the republic order soon. Nevertheless Laurentius is not the de-facto head of state anymore and all future foreign relations are going through me.

We are thankful for your previous support in the pacification of Northern Italy. The price we both paid was great and now peace has been secured in Etruria. The task isnt over yet tho. The main threat to both of our nations still exist futher North. The gallic horde is estimated at 35 000 barbarians ready to sack Massialia, Nicaea and Adria whenever they please. We are forming a "coalition of the willing" to annihilate the gallic horde for good. The coalition would be formed with the Ligurians, so that we, you and they together can challenge the horde and bring peace and civilisation to North of river Po. Therefore we ask you to join this last battle that lies between prosperous, secure and free Italy. We are willing to help you defend Tragurion and lissos with one legion if you join us in this fight and once again send those brave southern men to hold the line, from Elea.

      Vale bene!

There will be a formal notification of the normalisation of the republic order soon. Nevertheless Laurentius is not the de-facto head of state anymore and all future foreign relations are going through me.

The Senate and the people of Rome are very grateful for the support we have recieved from you in our continuing efforts to pacify Northern Italy. However the greatest threat still remains, the gallic horde is situated just few hundred miles from your cities and they could attack you whenever they wish to do so. They are also a great threat to us as well as the Magna Graecians. Therefore we have decided to form a "coalition of the willing" to unite our forces in the North and annihilate this horde and bring peace, prosperity and freedom to all Italian peoples. We are asking you to join our legions and do the right thing.

The senate has decided to spend 14 talents to connect your cities with roman roads, built schools, improve agriculture and train up your warriors up to the latest strategies if you agree. Of course this will just be the modest start in case you decide to join our Italian Republic. Other benefits include, Roman citizenship, guaranteed security, lots of federal money, free trade, exclusive markets for the products your most skilled im making in the empire, port facilities, annihilation of the pirate fleet et cetera. What do you say?

        Vale Bene!

        • OOC : Micha, for the next map update, the fleet that is off of Crete should be split between Abydos and Alexandrograd. Also there are the 1000 hoplites in Alexandrograd. Good job otherwise

          Macedonia to Persia :

A pleasure doing business with you. [Orders : the 4 talents collected in taxes goes in the treasury]

          To Lydia :

Of course, your valor and foresight deserves compensation. But we do have our own needs in the Aegean. Would you settle for just Lesbos and Chios? [OOC: I assume I’m not giving away anything I held before the war]

          To Magna Graecia :

We would be happy to return the…remainders of your towns. A pity you didn’t defend them better. You owe us 32 talents for our rebuilding efforts. And of course you must repurchase the land that new settlers have taken, which should probably be not more than 1 or 2 talents. Consider the expenses we incurred in retaking the towns for you a gift. They will be transferred back to you upon payment of the fees listed. And our allies are our business, not yours. We must say they fought more valiantly for Lissos and Tragurion than you managed to do. But of course that is neither here nor there, could not be avoided, most regrettable. We’re sure no one is left to blame you holds that against you. Good day.

          EDIT :

Yeah, you´re right... Well I knew I forgot something
The thing is that Photoshop screwed up two times today, so after an hour I was quite eager to finish the job as soon as possible

We thank you for reconquering the towns, but it wasn´t anything we asked you for. Your investments into the developement of the area are appreciated, but it changes nothing about the situation.
Please return those lands to us.

              Magna Graecia to Rome
What have you got to offer in exchange for our military assistance? Won´t you just conquer all the lands and then send us back your condolences...?

              Liguria to Rome
Your offer is tempting. The counsil of chieftains will have to dicuss that matter more thoroughly. Regardless of the outcome, we would like to apply for help as soon as possible; the Gauls have been raiding our countryside again, and though we can defend our cities, our farms are wide open for them to plunder and torch...

                    • Roman Republic

                      a.d. XI Id. quintilis 291

                      The Days of Glory

The war in Etruria was officially declared over in May 291. 3rd June the legions and their commanders marched via Aurelia Vetus to Rome in triumph. 26 000 legionaries, 6 000 men on horse, over 4 000 foot soldiers, thousands of enslaved enemies, hundred chariots of spoils of war, enemy standards, swords, helmets, shields. The procession was 30 miles long!

The senate had declared the day and the folowing week public holiday and grandiose celebrations had been prepared for weeks. People were flocking to see the procession and priests blessed the legionaries and their commanders. The smell of incense was so strong that some people faint. The doors in the temple of Vesta had been shut once again to mark the peace that had been fought for.

The ultimate destination being the Forum Romanum and the Temple of the Juppiter Optimus Maximus on the Capitolium hill were all light up by thousands of large torches. And as the night fell the sight was absolutely astounding. Once the triumphants arrived at the Forum they were greeted by the elders of state, the senators. Speeches were made praising the Roman and their allies valour oand superior tactics. Official sacrificies were made by the priests and the high ranking officials. Then came the time for the triumphant to say few words..

All things come to an end

"Dear Romans, I have been honoured to serve the republic for 39 consecutive years with the rights of a dictator. I was invested with this highest judical authority by the senate because the state was in emergency. Our homes were first threatened by the Umbrians, then the Samnians and later the Etruscans. Those immediate threats no longer exist. Ergo, from this day on, there will be no military tribunals, no marshall law, no dictator. Just You the people, and the senate and comitium to serve you. The will be two consuls appointed by the senate as there used to be, there will be public accountability and the people will be able to vote and have their say on how the affairs of the state are being run. The freedom will, as of now, be restored.

I was a dictator for far longer than anyone had predicted. Not even the founding fathers of our republic ment anyone to be on this post for as long as four decades. Some people have been accusing me for trying to destroy the republic, of wanting to be the king. But let me assure you that it was never in my interest to seek power or wealth to myself. In every decision I took, I always placed the interest of the nation before mine. I sware this through my dead son and the thousands of soldiers who perished while making this day possible. I thank you for all these years and humbly step down and according to the 12 table laws shall never seek public office again. Romans, now it is your turn to celebrate! Let the festivities begin!"

                      Thankful senate

After the week long celebrations, the senators once again met in one of the many parks of Rome, this time at the Horti Torquantiani.
Laurentius Aelius wasnt present but looking after his small garden near his house on the Palatium hill. The senate decided that this was not adequate for a hero so a proposal was made to build a villa for Laurentius near the village of Narnia just 20 miles outside of Rome. The proposal was unanimously approved.

                      Villa Laurentiana, Narnia

Other pressing affairs of the state

Now the senate had to appoint two consuls and someone to command the Legion I Romana, also the army needed a chief of staff. The two consuls were agreed to be Appius Claudius and Spurius Cassius. the Legion I Romana command was given to Publius Cornelius Scipio he was also made the chief of staff. This was because of his extraordinary talents and the references from Laurentius. With the command of 2 legions and the overall command of the army it was hoped Scipio would be able to see the big picture more easily.

Senate also decided to start to build the "coalition of the willing" to pacify the Northern Italy. Wich ment getting rid of the 47 000 gallic warriors. To achieve this efforts were agreed to be made to try to strengthen the alliance between the Ligurians and the Greeks in the South. Since they had even more at stake than the Romans had, convincing them was not believed to be a difficult task. The Senate agreed to found two new colonies for the retired soldiers and to secure the Nothern Etruria. Florentia was to be found on the border with the Ligurians and Bononia was to be found North-West of Ariminium. The legions were ordered to seure the area South of river Po and fortify their positions there. To guard the South border Legion II Italica was ordered to the Fort Latina.

                      Orders

                      - spend spend 14 talents to connect New colonies and Ligurian cities with roman roads, built schools, improve agriculture in Liguria and train up Ligurian warriors up to the latest strategies to show roman gratitude and to prepare them to fight with romans against the gauls.
                      - Spend 40 talent to found the colonies of Bononia and Florentia.
                      - Order Legions I, III and IV to secure terriotory South of river Po.
                      - Order Legion II to Fort Latina.

5 talents to help the poor

25 talents to fund the mining operations in Attur

8 Talents for 1,000 footsoldiers to help deal with the problems of local tribes that may interfere with the mining operations in Attur.

25 Talents to increase organization of the smallest towns, to the largest cities through city planning, to thus increase efficiency of business.

8 talents to create more efficient mining methods, aspecially as applied to copper.

                            • Joining in on the Persian-led "Day of 300 posts", Macedonia has a day of Bacchinalian revelry, but somewhat toned down, because the people are a little apprehensive about the apparent cessation of time. Thus before they started their revelry they offered up hekatoms in the temples to the almighty Zeus-Michion, imploring him to be merciful and return the flow of time to its proper rate.
