  • Galactic Civilizations or Master of Orion 3

I know this should go in the other game section, but I am leaving for the store in 3 hrs.

Which of these games would you recomend and why? I have been looking forward to both of them for some time now, and can't decided which one to buy tonight.

So what do you guys think?

    IMHO, GalCiv.

MOO3 was a very good concept executed very badly. There are some interesting features not seen often if ever(like the senate, etc), but poor documentation, poor AI, awkward UI, balancing issues and an atempt to fit everything plus the kitchen sink makes the game mediocre, IMO. Note, I haven't tried it with the patch thatwas released recently.

GalCiv, OTOH, has a concept that has been seen before - theres very little new features - but it was very well executed. Its well balanced and is fun to play. The AI is very, very good. Note, there no ship design or tactical battles and the graphics are pretty low level, if graphics are important to you.

      I have both.

I honestly can't recommend one over the other, as neither have thrilled me.

MoO3 is, oh, just slightly buggy and I have put it away until the code patch comes, who knows when.

Gal Civ, I have played a few times but haven't been able to get into. In all fairness, I haven't devoted that much time to it. What has turned me off the most is the lack of planets. I have it set for abundant, but there are only a few stars with planets within spitting distance. Not my idea of fun, but again I am probably missing something.

GalCiv is more Civ like I suppose and MoO3 is like, well, hmm. i dont' know. I would recommend GalCiv, as at least the designers are updating it.

(and are you going to post this in any other forums?)

I bought both and wasn't terribly impressed by either.

GalCiv: Been there, done that. There is nothing new here, although it is quite nicely executed.

MoO3: Some nice ideas - it focusses very much on macromanagement, using governers to run the planets for you so I think the gameplay is fundamentally different from anything we have seen before (and why the whiners who don't understand the idea don't like it). But it is very buggy and the AI doesn't seem very smart.

All in all, I think MoO3 will last longer, presuming that the bugs will be fixed and the AI smartened up a bit.
