  • I know you're "joking" but three people have already been banned this morning for insults, so I'm perfectly willing to add a fourth, or more.

The occasion for real dancing will be when:

MIA's and POW's are accounted for.
Essential life support services are restored - i.e. water, food distrubution, and power.
A degree of law and order (without blackmailing thugs) is established.
A provisional Iraqi government starts functioning,
Legal, judicial and electoral system are set up,
          foreign troops can be withdrawn,
A real government is elected, and then replaced in a peaceful electoral transition without emergence of a new dictator.

Otherwise, not much has been achieved for the human or financial cost.

          • You know, it doesn't seem like those on the left are at all happy with the military developments. All they do is continue to ***** and moan. I know how it must break the leftists' little hearts when they see liberated people celebrating freedom.

            • MtG, Agreed. That's when we can all truly celebrate.

Nevertheless, the view from here seems promising.

Anyway, this is all well and good, but the really hard part is yet to come.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

Anarchy is the greatest freedom of all.

Since you're into liberating people and celebrating freedom, when are the invasions of Zimbabwe and the Congo? They seem like good candidates.

Perhaps they aren't stupid enough to believe that the US will allow Iraq political freedom. I imagine the strings will be very strong. I mean, what if the Iraqis decided to elect an Islamist government?

First we need to liberate the Democrats.

                            • all that needs to really be done now is a good job rebuilding iraq.

                              a good job, not a half-assed one.

one wouldn't want another strongman to arise there. then we'd be back at square one.

it's a simple rule. when you go somewhere not your own, you're a guest; and when you're a guest, you fix what you break, or buy them a new one.
