Most of the dip****s go down to Rosarito. We can pretty much avoid it here.
The clip Olaf posted is fairly interesting - certainly, the appearance is that multiple targets in the hotel are firing initially, but it's impossible to tell when that was with respect to the firing on the journalists. It's possible that incoming fire is blowing out glass, and that's what's reflecting. It's possible that it's outgoing fire, lens reflections, almost anything - but it's sure enough to fool someone looking at it into thinking there's a lot of smallarms fire directed at someone.
There's a problem with the sound and film, though.
The small arms fire that drops the first cameraman ain't from one of those two distant M1s. The only MG fire that could hit accurately at that range would be .50 cal, which is large enough and heavy enough that it would:
(a) blow right through that cinder block balcony...
(b) you wouldn't be able to hear the distinct sound of a Kalashnikov, the .50 and the 5.45 mm Kalashnikovs have very distinct sounds, and they're as similar as a Rottweiler and a toy poodle barking. Yeah, they're both German dogs, but...
(c) you wouldn't get that little skittering sound and bitty clouds of dust when the rounds impacted. When .50 comes your way, you know it.
(d) the rate of fire is far too high for .50 cal
(e) you'd see inbound tracers, since every fifth round in the belt is API-T.
