DD: you weren't getting a UNSC resolution and that was obvious.

If you had we'd probably have tossed in a couple of CF-18s and allowed our ships in the region to take a more direct role in the war. Which would have made us the 4th biggest partner in your little coalition...

The sooner the Bushies are out of power, the faster the US wil gain back its faith with old allies.

Afghanistan, Albania, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, FYROM, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Kuwait, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Mongolia, Palau, Portugal, Rwanda, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Uganda

There's at best 10 states there that matter, and the list of missing is much more substantial, not only in numbers, but in general importance. Just take South America:

with the US: Colombia (just got 1 billion form the US)
Not with the US: everyone else.

      Yeah, that list is amazing.....

ThePantaloonDog thanks for clarifying. I'll try to get in the spirit of the thing.

BTW, Turkey gets to be part of the 'supporting countries' just by allowing overflights and maybe not attacking the Kurds too much? Heck. Let the US fly over Canada if that is all it takes.

I agree that countries may disagree with the policy and actions of the United States for ulterior motives, or a secret agenda.

But to say that as if to imply that the United States itself has no ulterior motive or secret agenda to invade Iraq is fallicious.

Conan had a great bit about that:

BUt I guess they don't want to anger their three previous imperial overlords, Spain, Japan, and the US.

Only five states have sent soldiers, and only three have sent more than a thousand troops. The coalition of the willing is nothing more than a pack of sycopahnts.

I'm reminded of that little dog in the old Warner Brothers cartoons thatkeeps bouncing around the big tough bulldog, utterly useless accept to feed the big dog's ego.

BTW, Chris, the US never had nine votes. Sure, maybe six nations wouldn't have voted the resolution down if the French had vetoed, but that's like saying a person would decide not to go swimming if someone emptied the pool. If France vetoes, no one else has to do a thing. It's a moot argument.

And while you keep harping on how the UN wasn't enforcing its own resolutions, it bears repeating that Resolution 1441 required that any nations who had intelligence on Iraq's weapons program share it with the inspectors. The US failed to do so. The US violated the very resolution it claims to be enforcing.

Oh, I see how it works. The Americans tell us we should invade someone, and we just go along with it, no questions asked, because they would help us if the Red River floods again. Right on.

Well, here's the thing, Cellucci: We DID help you after 9-11. We sent troops to Afghanistan, we sent firefighters and aid to New York... but we did not give you free reign on deciding our foreign policies.

And I am no fan of Chretien, but I do support some of his infamous "legacy" actions: no war, aid for Africa, electoral reform... (but we differ on the gun registry... oh man, that damn gun registry...)

As for what the Libs had to say:

                    **************************
WHAT LIBERALS HAVE SAID ABOUT THE U.S.:

Herb Dhaliwal, March 19: "I think the world expects someone who is the President of a superpower to be a statesman. I think he has let, not only Americans, but the world down by not being a statesman."
                    **********************

I agree completely, Herb, and I have no idea why anyone would make a fuss out of that comment.

MP Carolyn Parrish, Feb. 26: "Damn Americans. I hate those bastards."
                    **********************

That was a stupid and inappopriate joke.

Jean Chrétien, Feb. 13: "Great strength is not always perceived by others as benign. Not everyone around the world is prepared to take the word of the United States on faith."
                    ***********************

                    That's almost eloquent, Jean.

                    **********************
MP Colleen Beaumier, Jan. 29: "This is a war against children. No matter how you slice it, there is more to this war than the Bush regime and the Saddam Hussein regime. How many children are we going to kill to replace that regime?"
                    ***************************

Eh, that's taking it too far, Mme. Beaumier.

                    ************************
MP Benoît Serré, Jan. 29: "George Bush is very trigger-happy. "

Chretien was right - it's not as if the US trades with Canada because they want to be "nice", but because it is to their advantage. If they want to shoot themselves in the foot by imposing trade sanctions on their largest trading partner then they should go ahead.

This whole debate is just handbags at twenty paces fanned by the laughing stock Harper and his merry men the joke party the (Anti-)Canadian Alliance.

The Americans were there for us right at the start in 1914 and 1939, fighting with us without any question so naturally we should join the US in its attack against little ol' Iraq.
