Sure you can. Companies have gay employees working alongside straight employees all the time.

Believe it or not, many heteros don't view homosexuality as good and equal to heterosexuality.
That's the problem of those narrow-minded heteros.

They don't understand it that they are sharing a foxhole with someone that may want to be more than comrades.
Once again, that's the fault of those who make unfounded assumptions. Just because you're a man doesn't mean a gay guy is going to instantly be all over you. My, how we flatter ourselves...

Gay military relationships would lead to many altercations to say the least.
So do heterosexual ones. So what?

Many people view homosexuality as disgraceful and immoral.
Once again, that's the problem of those who hold those opinions, not gays. Remember that it was decided a long time ago that the military wouldn't exclude or segregate blacks just because of the low opinions many people had of them at the time.

Gays are stereotyped as leftist and effiminate, with lispy voices and died hair. Not exactly the prototype soldier.
Lamest point yet, since you yourself point out that it's a stereotype. Most gays behave like everyone else. I've certainly never had anyone IRL thinking I'm effeminate, nor do I lisp, nor is my hair dyed. And the same is true for the vast majority of homosexuals. This is the part where the behavior of the individual should be considered, not unfair stereotypes.

Besides, how many gays are even interested in joining the military?
Ask finkian. He's gay and currently in the military, which is more than we can say for you. Ask the ones who have fought their discharges under DADT tooth-and-nail. You again rely on an unfounded stereotype that gays wouldn't be interested in being in the armed services. Why wouldn't they, if heteros are as well?

Not just homosexuals, but homosexual lovers. The theory was that they would fight more fiercely in defense of their lover than an ordinary soldier for his comrade. The theory seems to have been borne out in practice.

            That's a small sample size, Boris .

And actually the 'lover on the battlefield' concept is one of the main reasons for not having women on the frontlines. People would try to protect their lover so much, that they may forget about the plan or subsequent orders (like let 'em go and get the objective type thing).

Well, in modern times, I've heard that lovers in the same unit are discouraged, or separated, that way the officers don't have to deal with lovers spats.

i'd just like to point out that i have several friends, both gay and straight, that are over there in iraq (or on ships nearby, or wherever in the region) that are fighting in the war right now. let's hope they all come home safely.

Funny... it seems to me that Alexander the Great had to, at least, be bisexual, and he ruled over much of the known world. This proves that gays can be just as viable a military force as heterosexuals.
