  • What is Germany's hidden agenda?

    This article explains France's agenda:

Iraq is greatly in debt to Russia from past arms sales. Russia fears a regime change will wipe away debt.

But why is Germany opposed to war. I have heard of oil deals but nothing past that.

Schroeder is blaming his poor leadership on the first thing that comes along... this just happened to be it

Perhaps its close to election time, and Schroeder wanted to score some points with the voraciously anti-war (and a lot are misinformed, IMHO) German population for an upcoming campaign.

                Friendship? Chirac?

Chirac would **** his dead mother for political gain.

Not quite, but one of the reasons for his strict "no" is certainly his strict "no" during the last election campaign. In the last months Schröder was accused of breaking the promises he made during that campaign in summer 2002 (mainly about economically issues), so he needed at least one point where he could show the public that he keeps a promise - that about Iraq.

It is not the only reason, of course public (anti-war) opinion plays a role, also the fact that a part of the current coalition in Germany (the Greens) has roots in classical pacifism

German's still have a stygma when it comes to war; a relic leftover from the World Wars. So its hard to blame them for being anti-war.

The Germans don't want war because they don't like it. Is that so hard to understand? Why is it necessary that they have a hidden agenda?

Yes, and Americans want war because they want to break Saddam's link with Al-quida. Why is it necessary that they have a hidden agenda?
