Instead of insulting people, some 'Poly posters need to accurately read posts before running their mouths... err fingers. I never said the US was a Democracy.

What makes you think we're discussing your comment?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Since he wasn't PM at the time, I doubt it matters. Maggie, however, was tossed out on her arse after the Poll Tax fiasco.

              when?

December, IIRC. Congress gave Bush the authority to use force against Iraq when he deems it fit.

And to the ignoring democracy guys. The whole point of a democratic republic is for the people elect representatives who make good decisions based on their beliefs, not the poll numbers at that second in time.

When do we get the good decisions?

Yay. Britain gets to take part in the destruction of Iraqs infrastruture (and the consequent deaths that will follow the collapse).

But I suppose Britain is pretty used to doing that

The spirit of the democratic system is a government that (get this!!!) SERVES THE PEOPLE.

                          Yeah, I agree.

In other news, the Union Jack was waved in front of Queen and Prince Bushs White House today celebrating the vote in the house of commons.

And the spirit of a Democratic REPUBLIC is that the government does not allow the mob of true democracy to trample over the rights of the minority.

When the government defies the people, it does not serve them.

In some cases it is best for the elected representatives to defy the people (such as the Civil Rights Acts and Amendments in the US, passed by representatives over great odds from the 'people'... we felt it in the next election)

A republic does not pander to the basest fears of a fleeting statistical component, but serves the whole.

We (USofA and Britain) got involved in this quagmire 12 years ago for the very best of reasons. We should not turn our backs and walk away just because finishing the job is unpleasant and even costly.
