The position of both countries (and France espacially) deserves many critics, but this argument is probably the most stupid I've read on this issue. If the war is avoided -which is a very tiny chance- it will be because of France and Germany's leading opposition to it.
If the war happens -which has a nearly 100% chance of it occuring-, it will be because of the warmongering determination of the Bush team.
If you're so keen of not seeing American youth die, you should oppose the war, rather than opposing France

It's only overpriced because of tarrifs. Personally, I prefer Italian wine any day of the week, but good French wine is truely wonderful stuff.

Actually, the label would be for potential infection with mad cow disease.

"People should know how the French make their wine," Hastert spokesman John Feehery said. Republicans are trying to determine how much French wine on the market has been clarified, or essentially made clearer, by using bovine blood, a process banned after the scare involving bovine spongiform encephalopathy -- or "mad cow disease" -- in the late 1990s.

Two U.S. wine experts contacted by The Washington Post said a few French wineries used bovine blood as a clarifier before the ban. Such a warning label for any wine would be akin to a "Mr. Yuck" stamp, one expert said.

Oh, and French wine is overpiced in the US also because most of our exportations broker too much on the prestige of th etiquette. In France, you can find rather inexpansive good wines (approx. 6 € a bottle for a more than decent quality) if you go to the right shops.
Most of our exports are pretentious Bordeaux, which use their fame to have be overpriced when compared to the quality

When I had a lecture on wine-making process (in Bordeaux incidentally), I never heard of anything like that. My friend working in the wine industry also never told me about the use of bovine blood. I don't doubt such a thing exist(ed), but it must be extremely marginal, if it still exists at all today.
It is more a pretext just to stigmatize France a bit more, and to raise paranoia ("Look ! Drinking French wine might get you to get mad cow !"). Ludicrous, but sadly, many people will buy it

Spiffor, when France made it a bit harder to defend europe, I thought, eh, they are stupid and screw themselves. Alot of Americans developed a dislike at that point. France became the butt of a few jokes. Then, France became known for its rude citizenry, known for their dislike of Americans. It bbecame known as a place to watch your wallet, and watch out for American haters trying a con. All unseemly stuff that existed below the surface. Well, it's not below the surface anymore. France has now raised the ire of Americans that will last for a long time, and is much stronger than you imagine. Not just the government, but Americans. This will cost you BILLIONS as Americans say **** YOU with their wallets. The boycott is on, believe me.

France has 30 billion in trade with the US. Well, kiss much of that goodbye, more as the boycotts become more organized. Even my wacko leftist brother hates France. My co-workers speak of their dislike of the French...it's a part of the fabric of American society now.

Yeah yeah, like all pro-peace people (but above all like all French pro-peace people), I just love Saddam. I love him so much I phantasize on him at evenings, and am on the verge to dumping my gf to live in worship to Saddam.

Face it : France is an easy target to Americans looking for a whole people to hate. Since you cannot hate Iraqis (after all, you're going to free them), and since you don't have enough previous hate for Germans, it falls on France. This is stupid .
Fortunately, I don't think any other American on this board is as anti-French as you are, except Ted Striker, so I guess you're widely exxagerated resentment against France in your country. I sure hope so.

This is true. I hope Russia or Germany will find a more correct less imperialistic solution, which will not resort to war. France has just way too many interests in this to adopt a position which can really satify the anti-war people.

Che, apparently you know little about either the law or morality. It's quite legal, as armed force has been authorized by the Senate. It is immoral to decline to oppose with force a regime so bloodthirsty, when it is within one's capacity to do so.

It is telling that you can accuse Bush of "war crimes" when as yet neither war nor crimes have been committed. Your ignorance is appalling.

Spiffor, lots of Americans here on Apolyton are just as anti-French as Lancer. I for one don't spend much time on OT, and when I do I mostly lurk. I hadn't posted on OT for months. Jerk Chirac and the Friggin' Frogs have prompted me to speak out against their idiocy, and of those who express like thought.
