  • Let me put it this way. You do not get to that sliver of BC East of the Rockies without going through Alberta. Might be why they sometimes grumble about 'breaking off' and joining Alberta.

    • Sonny, that gray ain't the Alaska Highway.

Read the tiny black lettering that says

      "Mile Zero"

      Near Dawson Creek.

      • Right. And you can drive from Montana to Alaska without traversing Alberta.

        OK. Sonny...

But there's no major highway from Dawson Creek down to the US. That major highway is through Alberta.

          • You can get to Dawson Creek in BC.

            Here's what you do.

            Drive to Vancouver,

Take Highway 99 all the way to PG, my hometown.

There is another Highway called the John Hart Highway that connects Prince George with Dawson Creek.

            No need to touch Alberta.

Yes, 1977, but you denied something like this ever happened.

IF you don't like the source, find a better one that does verify your claim. Good luck.
Where precisly did I deny it? The way Che phrased it, it came off as some kind of environmental disaster that left nearly half the Island sterile.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

              • Sure. If you want to drive with a mountain goat as your navigator over goat trails for a thousand miles.

If you want to get to Dawson Creek quickly, you'll head North to Edmoton, then vector towards Dawson Creek. 365 days of the year. Might be why Northern Alberta derived most of the benefit of building it. We could get there.

This is why they prefer the "straight and narrow" route through Alberta:

Who would want to drive that?

Have you driven the route, NYE?

                      • For an actual map, not a poor ariel picture of the river, not the highway.

See the highway between PG in the centre of BC to Dawson creek in the East.

Granted the route may not be as flat as the Albertan route, but that's what happens when you have to cross the Rockies.

Most people driving the Alaska Highway are looking for an experience they will remember, not a walk in the park.

What's the matter? You can't drive in a straight line?

                          • The main concern of the route is for semis, nobody really cares how tourists get there.

And the semis don't take rinky-dink BC small highways through the rockies...

You see them mountains, Tingkai? You know, the ones the road is heading towards?

Also take note of how thin the road is.
