      My church.
Arapaho UMC is a progressive, casual and LGBTQ+ affirming Wesleyan community in Richardson, TX, striving to intentionally develop our faith, engage in ministry with the poor, cultivate deeper relationships and help our refugee and immigrant friends to thrive.

Well, if you really want to know.

A good summary is to look at the sermon on the mount, and to interpret this literally.

We are the same as the Baptists except for two points:

        1. We interpret 'turn the other cheek,' as to not kill other people regardless of the reason. You may kill someone accidentally in self-defense, but we believe there will be a peaceful solution to most conflicts. In the case of national conscription we allow members to participate in non-combat service.

        2. Swearing oaths. 'Let your yes be yes and your no be no.' Mennonites place a large emphasis on truthtelling, moreso than the Baptists.

        3. Conservative mennonites require headscarves to be worn by women, and sometimes traditional dress. I belong to a more liberal mennonite church, which does not require this, partially due to the fact our congregation has a variety of national backgrounds, unlike more conservative congregations.

Our name comes from the founder, Menno Simons. He was a radical Christian for his time in the Netherlands because of the combination of pacifism and believers' baptism. The established Protestants, Lutherans, Reformers and Anglicans along with the Catholic Church all practiced infant baptism. They would burn Mennonites for the heresy of 're-baptising' those baptised as infants.

I see that they're more judgemental also.

Damn, you've got me thinking of that Pioneers song now.

Baptists don't need to be reminded as much as Mennonites.

"What do Congregationalists believe? What makes them distinct from other Christian denominations?"
We're basically a bunch of touchy-feely, lovey-dovey, liberal protestants. We also have the term congregation because we do, indeed, congregate. Our church is very much a community-based thing. We vote on stuff.

Hard to tell...I've met some awfully strict and preaching protestants according to whom I'm going to hell just for disagreeing with them, but also some rather reasonable and tolerant catholics. And vice versa too, I suppose...

In the end, apparently differences depend much more on the individuals themselves than the specific church they belong to.

I'm in the midst of trying to find a Christian denomination in which I can actively affirm my belief in God and Jesus, without compromising part of who I am.

There is a church of the Episcopal denomination that I went to for the first time last week, and I probably will go again, and try to decide if I'm ready to be actively faithful in my beliefs.

The Episcopal denomination recognizes the human dignity of homosexuals.

But I have not decided yet, if this is where I want to go.
