I really liked the two Mel Gibson movies this year: One was We Were Soldiers. The other - I forget the name - was about an alien invasion. Mel played a "former" priest.

In both movies, Gibson was a hero. Hardly loathesome at all.

BTW, both Gibson movies are far better than any nominated for the Golden Globes, IMHO.
I don't know about WWS, bu I saw Signs, and thought it was a pretty mediocre film. Besides a lot of the lame plot stuff, I didn't particularly care for Gibson's character in that, as it was a tad one-dimensional.

Gibson is becoming Costneresque in is narcissistic choices of roles as some sort of borderline Messianic hero. Ever since Braveheart he's been harping on the same note, and it sounds of sanctimony. I think he needs to get over himself, badly.

Seems he's been that way since Road Warrior.

I still think is performance in both WWS and Signs was excellent.

I can hardly wait for his Trial of Jesus Christ. Now we are really talking about a Messianic hero.

Can't be worse than his performance as a 40 year old Hamlet.
