First of all, realize that I'm nowhere near the level of a Royce Gracie or a Bas Rutten. Keeping that in mind, yes, I can neutralize most high kicks using relatively simple techniques - either blocks or catches.
Actually if you do anything involving George Dillman (Who has a great deal of easily obtainable books if you care to look into this) you will come to realise that no martial Art actually contains blocks, sounds odd at first if you've been doing it for a while, but ultimately true.

Royce Gracie rocks, he's done two seminars at my school, my teacher worshipps him.

you are that good, that all high kicks are virtually useless?..
Not at all. I'm not some incredibly awesome fighter or anything. What I'm trying to say is that if I'm fighting someone of approximately the same skill level as I am, a high kick is NOT gonna work unless I screw up somehow, which is always possible, admittedly.

am sure sorry that you have not been exposed to any worthwhile opponents,
Maybe, maybe not. I've fought black belts in both TKD and Karate. Whether those are worthwhile opponents or not I leave to you to judge. And of course I've fought people who have trained Muay Thai for 12 years who have kicked the **** out of me.

      SKILORD,

I agree, but you have them in the wrong order (Even tho i'm better at Muay Thai i perfer juijitsu, Gracie I assume)
Well, to be a complete fighter, you need both in my opinion. A straight BJJ fighter will probably beat a straight Muay Thai fighter, though, just on the basis that the Thai boxer can't keep the fight standing up forever, and once it goes to the ground he is screwed.

Actually if you do anything involving George Dillman (Who has a great deal of easily obtainable books if you care to look into this) you will come to realise that no martial Art actually contains blocks, sounds odd at first if you've been doing it for a while, but ultimately true.
Actually I sorta see what you're saying - all of the "blocks" I would do are designed to damage the other person in some way - elbow blocks against feet and hands, shin blocks against kicks, etc.

Royce Gracie rocks, he's done two seminars at my school, my teacher worshipps him.
Last year I got to do a seminar with Relson Gracie - granted, he's no Royce, but it was a great opportunity. I missed an opportunity to train with Frank Shamrock because my arm was broken, that was definitely a bummer.

I fight Wado-Ryu, or as it's known now Wado-Kai, and it's fairly effective in open full contact tournaments. Especially known for short-course movements and adaptation from any style fought against, trying to take the best of all. ***** to learn though and is taking a long time. Best quick attack is a shot to the knee followed by a groin or neck shot (or nose shot if nothing better). Try to kick me with that leg and you better have some distance or a quick one-knuckle strike into the nerve in your thigh will dissuade you from trying that twice.

No. Looking cool with different combat poses isnt at all the difference you should be looking for.

I seriously doubt anyone really fought here in RL. Of course I have done most of mine when I was a kid and wouldnt know more than one who has done more than me when one was an adult, but things people talk about here..... all talk and no show!

I've known a friend who was a blackbelt and he couldnt even do one knuckle push-up...

I haven't. But a dojo partner of mine had a propensity for hunting down and mauling skinheads in RL. So I guess the style works in some cases .

If anyone thinks im being too rude, Apologies... Im not trying to though.. I just feel awkward when people try to analyze how to fight. It looks silly when people start comapring crane stance VS tiger strike in some cheap chinese movie dubbed.

then again thats how conventional people think... The school of crane kick is superior to that of school of tigerfist... for crane kick is faster and stronger/.....! Why, no... you dont say that you actually think the crane kick guy was a better fighter? No clearly his art was superior!

Calculating how to fight IS simple Calc II.
My sensei taught me with a simple question: Are you still standing?
                    Yes = Good.
No = Bad and time for different thinking.

Haha. Why is standing good? Ok I am getting too technical here. If I am lying down but I have won the fight I am happy. If I am standing but my bones are broken... time to run away...

anyway,Your philosophy of if it works its good and if it doesnt isnt that perfect.

Also, You try calculating during a fight.

Even if you had a super computer as your brain... There are simply too many options, too much variables, too much range of distance and position.

Agreed. BJJ and Muay Thai are NOT artistic fighting systems. They look downright ugly at times.

I seriously doubt anyone really fought here in RL.
Not too often - my last RL fight was a few years back. Someone tried to pick on me in high school, and I choked them out.

                        Again, totally agreed.

On the other hand, learning to fight on the ground, and even on your back, is very important

How come no one's mentioned a combination of wrestling and boxing? It seems to work pretty well for me, although I'd like to study jiujitsu if I go to Japan. It's also been highly successful in UFC. Just look at Don Frye; he kicked some serious ass, even with that gay-ass moustache...

Don Frye... Dan Severn... Maybe a gay-ass moustache is the true key to being a bad-ass.

If your talking about"RL" meaning R=Real L=Life, you are saddly mistaken I have, won 2 U S Open Championships and bounced for years, REAL WORLD, not officiated, not sanctioned, not controlled but actually getting it on with multiple opponents at one time. I was thirteen when I was held down in Baileyville Maine and had my ribs broken, 3 front teeth kicked out of my head while being held down in 1972 in a wooded community, small town setting, not big city , and yes I have fought too many times in REAL LIFE, but we are not taking applications for an assault force at least i hope not, then I will respectfully bow out. As for theses forums, you are indeed correct, this is "Talk" and not "show", my PC doesnt have a movie cam and well, I am just chatting, but if your lazy AR$E would take time to research FACTS mentioned here, then you would know they are founded

And that is what gives True Martial Artists a Bad name, not that he may not be the Very Best Fighter in World, but True Martial Artist dont go around "Hunting down" anyone, actually, they are probably hardest to get to fight, defend themselves yes, attacking others?? unless you are insecure about yourself, why would a person go attacking another?

Well, I've been missing some good debating.
I think what is essential here, that it's been proved, yes, over and over again, that the more traditional arts haven't been succesful in a looong time. When two men enter the ring/octagon/whatever, I'd like to see at least once when pure TKD fighter wins, and doesn't get the beating of his life. This doesn't mean that TKD is useless, not at all. Just that it's different art, old and with great traditions and is reckoned everywhere. However we should measure the 'reality' factor here, in REAL fights these guys just don't win. Same goes for Karate (any form), Kung Fu etc etc. Of course guys with this discipline have been good, BUT they have also trained other arts too, and are more well rounded.
There are few good styles, that are relatively new, and they have been PROVED to be effective, and that's their only goal. And it's not so much a question about the guys either, since they've had the best quality there. They have all got their butts kicked hard.

And as to the argument that these arts have been developed in hundreds of years and thus must be good.. well no one is arguing that they are bad, sure they are good. But they don't measure up with modern styles.
Would you go at it with a knife, when the other guy has m-16?
And sure, these modern arts of course have been developed from these older arts, they didn't invent completely new stuff that much, just combined the goods and left out the useless flashy stuff and went with what really works.
                                Just my thoughts..

Plus, true MMA/NHB/etc fighters won't go after just anyone. They fight each other in the ring, not outside the ring. And where's the pride of going after someone much weaker in the streets etc? Nowhere, completely the opposite. Some jackasses are always going the other way, but if you're confident of yourself and your skills, you don't have to prove them to someone, but just walk away.
                                In da butt.
