Just because Finland doesn't have very good colleges and everyone has to do heavy manual labor doesn't mean we Americans have to

Hey, I actually have woodworking skills.

My grandpa was a carpenter and taught my dad all kinds of stuff, and he taught me. Plus I took woodshop through jr. high and high.

Just because we're in compsci or law doesn't mean we're clueless about other things.

I pay the ten bucks for an oil change, just 'cause it's worth it to me to have an honest mechanic look at my car every now and then to tell me things like "Yeah, your defibrilator is on fire, you should have it replaced" before my car explodes or something.

Furniture assembly, though? Hell no, I'll do it myself, the furniture's usually at least 30% cheaper when it's unassembled. Besides, manual labor kicks ass -- I built retention walls for about four months last year, and it was the best job I'd ever had.

It is nice to see someone hold themselves out to ridicule like this.

Ohh and we have a car but I like my bike(actually I have 3 bikes) I'd rather ride along the beautiful wooded river than stop and start down a crowded highway anyday

Yeah, but on the crowded highway look at the advantages: Air conditioning, pushing a pedal rather than continuously cycling, radio or CD player, talking on your cell phone, and, most of all, supporting terrorism by buying gas! Yay!

Funny you should say that, because I was thinking about getting my sister to do it next time she comes to visit me. She'd do it for free, probably.

Course not-- my Dad was a teacher but he built a good portion of our house. When I was older he and I built a shed from concrete floor to shingled roof. It wasn't that hard actually. I have also replaced toilets, sinks with vanities, linoleum flooring, a dishwasher and two hot water boilers-- No superstar carpenter here, but these are all pretty easy tasks and only require some basic tools since all the water and electrical connections are already in place

I would probably kill myself doing some of that stuff.

Ahh but I enjoy the adreniline rush of a good workout -- and a good look at the cute joggers

Hmmmm. Good point about the cute joggers. I dunno, though - I haven't had a bike for probably 10 years.

But as to an adrenaline rush, I get mine from kickboxing, so I'm all set there

I did chicken out on replacing the bathtub however and paid a guy. Cutting through walls just to find the plumbing and then trying to fit the new tub into a space where it was enclosed on 3 sides was just a bit intimidating
