Uh... Lars, do you even know who Pat Robertson IS?

And the only Washinton Post link MarkG used is the claim that Taylor harbored Al-Qaida. Even without that part, Robertson is still a slimeball who supported blaming gays etc for the WTC attack and is in league with a brutal dictator and engaged in illegal mining activities.

You don't have a problem with that, because he's "Christian"?

When we give someone a good kicking who happens to be a Christian: sometimes they richly deserve it!

Thanks Mark. For once it was actually funny. That makes two out of the last dozen or so Modern Worlds.

And even nicer that you supplied some supporting links. This wasn't your normal everyday troll. Congrats and well done.

You know I pay attention to religion, Jack. Please.

I read the same statements made by Robertson and other leading evangelicals and have a complete different understanding of it. This is not new. Many twisted their words - maybe they have a problem with Christianity? I remember how you twisted what Richard Dawson said about Kurt Wise. And you never replied on that

You don't have a problem with that, because he's "Christian"?
I just sent an email to a cabinet member in the Norwegian government who is christian and critized him severly. That should answer your question.

          True.

And BG, I am not a terrorist, but America needs more ppl who are "with them". Almost the whole world is against you including your "allies", except lapdog Great Britain.

And what's your subtle degrading remark on Norway? It's the richest country in the world and number 1 on the UN's ranking of the best country in the world to live in.

We helped you in Afghanistan, my sisters bf flew F16 over the country and was ready to bomb Taliban and Al-Qaida. So much for gratitude

Generally: What's the problem with religion among certain Americans. The USA is the most religious country in the world with church attendance around 50%. Don't judge religion by ppl who say they are christians.

Kill 'em all and let... er... God sort 'em out.

Christianity is quite the political and economical motivator for too many.

It isn't necessary to twist their words. Falwell's words are quoted verbatim in this cartoon. He is a rabid fundy who sought to blame everyone he doesn't like for what happened. He says it plainly enough. And Robertson plainly supported him.

And, yes, I have a problem with fundie nutcases who seek to blame totally innocent people for the actions of some of their fellow fundie nutcases.
I remember how you twisted what Richard Dawson said about Kurt Wise. And you never replied on that.
I don't recall any accusation of "twisting" what Dawkins said about Wise, so presumably the reason I didn't reply is that I missed it.

But you haven't yet clarified exactly what triggered this knee-jerk reaction. Hypocrites? Modern day pharisees? Spawn of the Devil???

If you're going to start accusing fellow Apolytoners of being devil-spawn, at least have the decency to tell them why!

"I sincerely believe that the collective efforts of many secularists during the past generation, resulting in the expulsion from our schools and from the public square, has left us vulnerable,"

He said he did not believe God "had anything to do with the tragedy," but that God had permitted it. "He lifted the curtain of protection,"

"and I believe that if America does not repent and
return to a genuine faith and dependence on him, we may expect more tragedies, unfortunately."

I can see why people are saying that he blames the victims, but this is not necessarily the case.

First of all, without the terrorists, this would not have happened. They are still responsible for the deaths of 9/11.

However, he is trying to explain why God allows such a tragedy. Yes, some people are working against God, in such a manner as he describes.

The real question is how God responds to those actions.
Did he really withdraw his protection? Has he protected the US before? These are the debatable issues here.

Jack- repentence applies to everybody, including Mr. Falwell himself, not just those who he disagrees with.

this is about its international news pages.

dont know about the loacl affairs pages or the fianancial pages.
And this sounds like another one of your unsupportable claims. A quick google search shows several European newspapers, including Pravda and Der Spiegel, citing the Washington Post in international news stories, and many of their international journalists have won Pulitzer Prizes. Are you sure you aren't confusing it with the Washington Times?

Nope, Im talking about the Washington Post.

It is laughable in most european countries.
Again talking about the international section of it. (news from not the US)

the reason it has such a crap reputation is not because of mistakes in "opninions" (there are no such things... to an extend) but because of repated mistakes after mistakes in factual things. Gross mistakes.

Again, sounds like another one of your wild claims. Care to support it? I could give you the list of copious awards and citations it has received from prestigious worldwide organizations for its international reporting. Or do you think Pulitzer is unreliable, too?

and of course your arguments mean nothing once again

_even the w. times will be quoted if need be. being quoted does not mean being given "authority" or approval.
                              it means qouting,

_pulitzer to the int. journalists of WP is like peace nobel to arafat or sharon.
also a whole load of journalists will get a poulitzer some time in line.

if these who have won it are those who write in it, then oh boy, the prize is worth nothing.

the people who write for the int. pages of WP are exactly legendary because of their being semi-informed (which is worse than uninformed)

you can give me whatever you want.

the difference is, I work in this sector and I have visited and received collegeus from all over europe and know perfectly well the rep of WP.

We even had the pleasure to shred it apart a couple of times for its eye popping mistakes, in our own papers

but you can keep looking at google.
