  • I doubt any experience I've gained would help...

Dolores and I had to be married within 90 days of her arriving in the US with a fiance visa we obtained in the Philippines. Two years later she got her green card, and we didn't waste any time. It was a long involved and somewhat expensive process. We did everything legally though...

We completed the process and Dolores is now a citizen, after more time, money and paperwork.

I'd guess the thing to do would be to call the INS and tell them your situation and ask them what is going to happen if your husband reports.

Sorry, I wish I could be more help.

    • If you happen to be a Marionite and if you'd live in a none Syrian occupied area then Lebanon might not be to bad. Of course the economy would still be total crap and neither of you are likely to find meaningful employment but maybe you could sell your cars and use the money to start a store or a tourism business or something.

Neither would be likely to take off though until the people of the middleeast stop behaving like animals.

                      • Its funny listening to the anti-immigration blowholes...

Anyways, I don't blame your husband, tandee. I blame the US government and its inept immigration system. What many of these anti-immigration people don't realize is that there isn't a stable-efficient process to allow immigrants entry like Ellis Island, or other ports of entry. It's the government's own stupidity and inefficiency that is causing this so called "problem" of illegal immigration. My mom and her family came to the US in 1958, and there was an efficient process in place to allow the entry of immigrants, as there was for all Americans' families who immigrated here. And unless you're a Native American.... ALL OF YOU ARE immigrants! Anti-Immigrant conservatives seem to forget this... just another act of hypocrisy ::sigh::

                          • Immigrant, noun, a : a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence b : a plant or animal that becomes established in an area where it was previously unknown

I was born here. Thus, I am a Native American, I guess. I didn't come here from another country to take up permanent residence. Yes, my ancestors were not native to this continent. Yet, in some fashion or another no one is native to their country. Since when human life began their were no countries. I think the argument you (Sava) made would have been a lot stronger had you of left the last four sentences out. The ones accusing others of being hypocrits. Slashing is not arguing.

Perhaps the government is to blame for the immigration policies being poor. Yet, have they really changed so much in the last 50 years? I don't know.

Yet, the point is, this person got in to the country illegally, is living here illegally, and wants some sympathy for it. Guess what, they aren't going to get any. I am sure they new they were breaking the law when they chose to let their visa run out or stole into the US, I am sure they new they were breaking the law by not doing anything about it for so long. And, now they want remorse for not taking the proper channels? Ignorance does not protect you from the law.

I remember about a year ago (I think) a big line at the INS for "free" green cards, no questions asked. People waited for hours. Where was he then? Avoiding taxes?

My future sister inlaw has been in the US for 14 years working on an expired visa. She has applied for her green card, and is undergoing the lengthy process of acquiring one. Guess what, she has not been arrested.

Yes. In some ways better, in some ways worse.

Yet, the point is, this person got in to the country illegally, is living here illegally, and wants some sympathy for it.
No he didn't, no he's not, and no he doesn't. He came legally, he is only living illegally because his paperwork hasn't gotten through yet, and I only want sympathy for the fact that the INS is a big horrible bloated bearucracy (sp) and that we are being targetted because of his gender and ethnicity.

I am sure they new they were breaking the law by not doing anything about it for so long.
Yes, and it was a constant source of worry. Unfortunately we just didn't have the $600 as soon as we would have liked to.

Guess why not? Because 1) she's a woman and 2) she's not from the Middle East (I'm guessing). If she was, and she went to register, SHE WOULD BE ARRESTED. Thank you very much, you just proved my point.
