  • This day and age no one can be the bad guy.

Not even aliens (SW:TPM), they get hurt even more.

    • Critics of the Bond film also say it goes too far in depicting communist North Korea as a menace to world peace
      How so?

      • Take away the political death camps, starvation agriculture, reeducation facilities, retro economics, proliferation tendencies, paranoid militarism, and Kim Jong Il's love of Western satellite television, and he's a man of peace!
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I thought the satellite technology the NK's had was far beyond their capabilities in reality.

          But, so is Bond.

Bond movies are so unreal no wonder the Koreans are whinning about it! Ya know, I though Bond was British and the whole scene took place in NK, so why the anger from the SKs?

I think the ones that were in danger of starving have already done so. It was a temporary condition caused by massive flooding two years in a row in the mid 90s. From what I understand, that's no longer the case now.

                • LOL on the Bond issue.

The article sounds very Korean, the actor boycotting the role, etc.

China is trying its best to regain its historical position as the regional hegemon in East Asia. All the countries who used to be a part of the Chinese sphere of influence (Korea, Mongolia, Vietnam, etc.) had better watch their backs.
                      Oh? And your evidence is?

Most experts on Chinese foreign policy agree that China is attempting to return Asia to its historical status quo, with China as the regional hegemon. There have been a number of books and essays on the subject. The real question at this time is not whether or not this goal exists, but what methods China will use to pursue this goal.

I tried to find some links for you, but Foreign Affairs only offers a 500 word preview of the articles I wanted to cite. I could give you a suggested reading list, if you're interested.

At least the US isn't a nasty dictatorship. China can hardly take the moral high ground in this area.

Read your history book again, Tingkai. China was the one who supported the Khmer Rouge against the Vietnamese. America just looked the other way, since opposition to the Soviet-backed Vietnamese fit into our strategic plans.
