I realize some games get better reviews in different magazines, I was just pointing out not everyone agrees.

You can keep arguing that because a new console like the Xbox doesn't have the bigname franchises that Sony benefits from due to being in the business for years that it's somehow less capable.

The PS2 is great, it's just that the Xbox is better. If you truly can't live without your mass market Square/PES/VF games, then perhaps you should stick to the PS2 and keep quiet, but some of us are gamers that prefer to play something new every now and then. And then there's the technophile in me that simply laughs at the hardware behind the PS2, and the people who pay $199US for the hardware.

And actually as I was writing that post the mailman came and dropped off Super Mario Sunshine.

I was merely pointing out that the XBox isn't superior to the PS2 in those mentioned genres.

And I do advice you to buy a ISS/W11 game. You'd be surprised

I've been playing (and buying) all the games of both the ISS and FIFA series (on the SNES, N64, PSX, PS2 and (until recently) the PC). And sadly, despite the flashy design and francises, the Konami boys win this one every time.

According to about half of the reviews anyway.
Another thing to keep in mind that games that get a high score on the PS2 simply get a lower score on the Xbox if it's a direct port. The Gamespot editors compare them to what the console is capable of when reviewing, so what's great on the PS2 ends up only to be "good' on the Xbox, and the scores reflect that.

Which is why it always bugs me when people compare scores between consoles, most publications score them relative to other games on that console and what that console is capable of only.

I don't think anyone would disagree that the PS2 has the most triple AAA games of any of the three systems at present. And that is all that really matters, processing power, and numbers of polygons mean nothing if a game is bollocks.

With the killer year Nintendo's having though, I would expect that gap between Nintendo and Sony to greatly decrease.

The two games are exactly the same on both consoles, only the PS2 version has lesser graphics. If reviewes didn't look at games on other consoles, they would have rated both games equally, would they not? It's obvious reviewers do look at games on other consoles for comparison (FIFA being the prime example). I rest my case.

Why doesn't it apply to PES vs FIFA? Obviously PES is a superior game, but Konami didn't spend that much time on promoting it or getting licences. Hence, it isn't as popular as FIFA.

Of course, in the Xbox vs Sony case, this reasoning doesn't apply. MS is spending MORE money on marketing, than (probably) Sony and Nintendo combined! Yet still the Xbox isn't as popular as the other two consoles. Why? Cause the XBox simply isn't all that good!

Sales figures, of both games and consoles. Numbers of games around. Number of AAA games around. General popularity of games. Rating giving by respectable reviewers. And while the latter is an opinion, it is a profesional opinion and should be taking in consideration.

And of course, the only facts that are completely useless are the specs of the console. Sure, if I bought a 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 I'd have a better computer than I have now. No question about it. Yet, it won't make the games I play any better.

If so, the Xbox should blow the PS2 right out of the market, and the XBox games should be vastly superior to those of the PS2. Yet, I've given numerous examples that show the oposite.

Uhm, Saint Marcus, if the X-Box version had better graphics, than how is it the same as the PS2 version? If it was better why are you suprised if it was given a better review?

MS fanboys are saying that the same game, will get a higher rating on a PS2 than a Xbox.

Thus, a lesser game will get a higher score on an XBox.

Yet, with FIFA, a game which is slightly less in graphics on the PS2 than the Xbox version. So why did the PS2's version get a score that much lower?
