    X-Box, for the following reasons.

    1. Best hardware
    2. X-box Live!
    3. Large 3rd party support
    4. Great games
    5. Halo!

A few months ago I'd have said Gamecube (price, classic gaming licences, Super Mario Sunshine!), but Psychonauts is swinging me over towards the X-Box camp.

Overall I'd still suggest getting a GameBoy Advance.

I don't like game consoles - I either play board games or computer games.

            PS2 because of:

            1. DVD player
            2. FF X
            3. you don't want to give money to Bill Gates, do you?
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

PS2 if you like splosions, although many of the better PS2 games are eventually ported to the PC, so if your PC is decent you might want to get a Gamecube or X-Box instead. Plus, PS2's are generally cheaper by virtue of the fact that they're older, but this means that they're also, well, older.

                Here's my completely unbiased ( ) opinion:
                1. Xbox (have one and 11 games -- my favorite game consoles so far since the SNES)
                2. Gamecube (have one and 2 games, 1 more game [Mario] to be delivered as soon as Canada Post gets back to work
                3. PS2 (had one, sold it)

My reasons for liking Xbox are because it's the most capable hardware by a good margin, has a built in harddrive (no fuss with memory cards), every game outputs Dolby Digital 5.1 (some support the true surround better than others though), every game outputs in progressive scan (excellent for HDTV owners), and it's got 64MB of RAM with 6:1 texture compression. Gamecube has 24MB of RAM with 6:1 texture compression and PS2 has 32MB of RAM with no texture compression. That's why PS2 games look like ass and GCN/Xbox look better. Xbox has has Xbox Live (the idea of a unified buddy list between all games, across-game stats tracking, mandatory support for voice communication in the game with the headset, etc completely trashes Sony's/Nintendo's plan).

The only reason I have (and can see a reason) for owning a Gamecube is if you're an oldschool Nintendo fan. I grew up on Nintendo consoles so eventually I had to get one.

The PS2 isn't necessarily a bad buy, there's tons of good games for it, it's just that it's not a very forward looking console. It's pretty much at its limits now for what it can do, and the other systems aren't (and they already look and feel much better). The PS2 is a ripoff at its current pricepoint, I wouldn't be caught dead giving Sony (who happens to be more evil than MS ) $199US for a piece of hardware valued at $150US. The Xbox is valued at something like $325US...

I would say Xbox if there was any games out for it I wanted. Right now: two games, weee.

And only one exclusive title (Halo) among the top 50 all-time at www.gamerankings.com.

                    So GameCube it is.

As much as I love GT3, SegaGT is out in 3 days.

Personally there's more games coming out on the Xbox that interest me than PS2. It seems all Sony is interested in is paying big bucks to secure older franchises like Grand Theft Auto, while MS is focusing more on originality and Nintendo focusing more on their retro "gaming giants".

To paraphrase the Infogrames CEO, the PS2 is the Toyota of game consoles, the Xbox is the BMW.

Less people have it, but those that have it enjoy it more than PS2s.

                        I voted PS2 but I'm also a reluctant fan of X-Box.

Games that I plan on getting

I'm not going to count games that come out on multiple platforms, because 9 times out of 10 they're better on Xbox anyway. These are only Xbox exclusive games. (Taken from a webpage summary I did a couple weeks ago)

                          SegaGT 2002
"GT3 killer", 125+ fully licensed cars, billions of possible combinations in the garage, tons of tracks, great graphics and sound, free online addition in early 2003.

                          Quantum Redshift
Made by the people who made the original Wipeout games, only better.

                          Blinx: The Timesweeper
One of those games only possible with a harddrive. It keeps track of everything you, you can rewind, fast forward, pause, record, etc. all in game. Very nice and very unique twist on platforming that's got tons of people excited. Hard to explain, good preview is here: http://xbox.ign.com/articles/360/360199p1.html

                          Deathrow
Extreme sports taken to a new frantic (and gorey) levels. You gotta love sports games rated M. Preview: http://xbox.ign.com/articles/358/358097p1.html

                          ToeJam and Earl III
What can I say? I was a complete addict to I and II on Genesis a long time ago. TJ&E1 is definitely a classic, one of my favorite games of all times. TJ&E3 has been in development for nearly three years now and has been described as "TJ&E1 on steroids" by the developer. This will definitely be a major sleeper hit. Support for Xbox Live is a major unexpected plus.

                          Unreal Championship
Based on the upcoming Unreal Tournament 2003 engine, with more gameplay modes and no cheating. What's not to like?

                          Brute Force
Digital Anvil (headed by Chris Roberts of Wing Commander fame) has been developing this game now for a long time. Tactical sci-fi shooter. Very cool.
                          Absolutely gorgeous graphics.

                          MechAssault
Think MechWarrior, arcade-style, and multiplayer (singleplayer mode too). With a twist: Everything in the environment is destructable. One major tactic in the game is to shoot out buildings next to other players, and the buildings crumble and hurt the other players. Glass shatters, debris falls, etc. Spectacular.

                          Psychonauts
                          Tim Schafer. Platformer. 'nuff said.

Project Ego (or Fable as it's supposedly called now)
Peter Molyneaux's satellite company's game. It's an RPG unlike we've ever seen before. You develop yourself as you go, your appearance changes depending on what you do. People may even start mimicking you around the villages to try to be like you. The scope of this game is incredible, and it's got tons of people waiting patiently for it (many people claimed to have gotten an Xbox soley for it)

                          Panzer Dragoon Orta
Continuation of the classic Panzer Dragoon series from the Sega Saturn. Cult classic reborn with state of the art graphics and gameplay enhancements.

                          Midtown Madness 3
Anyone who's played 1 & 2 knows why this is such a big deal. It's also supporting Xbox Live.

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
People who've played the PC Crimson Skies games also know what I'm talking about.

Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball
Last but definitely not least. Okay, I admit I put this pic in just because I love it.

And much more. Further off we've got stuff Halo 2 (with Xbox Live support for cooperative and competive online play, along with a much better graphics engine and much more gameplay). It's a very good time to be a gamer.

And for those into Bioware's games (Buldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, MDK2, etc), Bioware has signed a deal with MS to make a game exclusively to Xbox. It's an original game (no licensing) and won't even be available on the PC.

Similarly, Tremor Entertainment (formed of ex-Blizzard employees who worked on Warcraft II, Starcraft, Diablo, etc) have also been signed to create exclusive Xbox content.

There's tons of great stuff coming out, a lot of it still unannounced.

You talking about Heroes? It looks like the PS2 Baldur's Gate mixed with 3E rules. But nice, I'm definitely leaning towards an X-Box now.
                              John Brown did nothing wrong.
