  • Anyway, we all know that the real reason parents get kids circumcised is to avoid having to teach them how to wash their winkies. It must be awful to discuss penises while looking your wide-eyed and wondering son in the face.

I'm going to ignore all the nasty things you are implying about me AND my husband, and just tell you one thing. I am strong willed, my husband is not. He is smart, but even he acknowledges that I am smarter. I think he's very mature for deferring to me when he is not sure whether I am right yet. I think it is more a proof that we work well together, not vice versa.

        • Ron-- I think your real secret is a small penis.

Asher-- Show me the ongoing full term statistically supported study that supports your thesis and I'll look at it.
Simple fact is, the research is too young to prove anything either way...that kind of research requires years of controlled experimentation. We're both supporting different sides of a thesis--yours just happens to have less relevance to me and vice versa.

As I said before, that's not going to keep me up at night.

              Wow.

Ever heard of picking your battles?

I guess I don't agree with your first post that circumcision or not is a very important decision. It's worth about as much discussion as you pay for the procedure. About $100. Logic dictates that its no big deal either way.

              Be careful what you eliminate.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. If a study is ongoing, it's not complete.

Moreover, the results of combining the data from the 28 published studies comparing HIV status to circumcision indicate that circumcision puts a man at a significantly higher risk of HIV infection.

                    • I love circumcision threads. They always degenerate into "How dare you accuse me of abusing my kids!".

Time for a pro-snip post. Abolish willie-trimming and the pork scratchings industry will be destroyed.

                      • Here's one I saw on "Puppetry of the penis". Whilst your dobber is hanging down, take hold of each side of your foreskin and pull downwards.

                          • Asher, as you noted in your refutation of pro-circumcision, the studies have not been done long enough to warrant either side's stance.
                            I picked one...deal with it.

                            • Asher, unless, for example, dilerious rich mommies can be shown that their baby is not being hurt, someone could come along and make a fortune with baby anesthesia, so there is probably a huge market for something like this.

Also, it might be impossible for them to "feel" anything for the same reason it's impossible to put them under, just because something in them in undeveloped. Otherwise they would feel something, and we could just use smaller doses or slower absorbing anesthetics just like on a small child. This, of course, is just a guess.

Too bad I am not going to research it.

I'm sorry, but I belong to this culture and you don't! You can think it nasty, but I've seen it. If your husband is waffling over whether to be more religious, there is a good chance HE WILL BE. The culture is simply too strong. Unless he is totally against his religion and culture and will never even think about being religious (like I am), the traditions will probably suck him in. I've seen where a man had a religious revival and then wanted to raise the kids Muslim, and when the wife disagreed, he left her.

Sorry if I was trying to give you some advice. Not like I don't know how Muslim culture is or anything

And furthermore, he is a man that seems to defer to you on everything. How long do you think it'll be before his buddies tell him to stand up for himself. And then when do you think you will do when suddenly he gets a backbone?
