Remeber that those loans were initially taken out under the dictatorship in Argentina. I don't think that any government should have to be liable for loans taken out by an undemocratic government forced upon them. All of the subsequent loans have more or less been to service the previous loans.

didn't you do something about it?
Can you do anything about the administration in your country? No. Next question please.

          start a new party
As if anyone will believe anything I say...

I guess they're slow, then. Hint: if you don't get paid, don't do the job.
Not slow, but the prospects of being unemployed are worse...

And the non-teaching staff is cleaners and receptionists... the people who teach there love their careers.

One thing we've learnt through economic hardship is that money isn't everything to life, a lot of stuff here continues functioning thanks to the labour power of a few.

we don't appoint your government any more, you know
So I wonder why Menem is campaigning in the US now...

If they did a lousy job it was your darn duty to kick them out and replace them with better people. Since you failed to deliver on even this basic civic duty your all guilty for the mess you're in.
I'm sure the US will let a coup that advocates for not paying a cent of IMF money back... anyday.

The one connection you've had with the West is that Western taxpayers have been financing your
The Plan Condor and the Proceso de Reorganizacion Nacional was very US-connected FYI. The US helped erradicate any opposition for the crooks here. All the idealists of a generation were shot and tortured by US tax payer money as well.

          You're an independet country

Moom, you are completely ignorant about anything. If all you're going to do is banter rather than suggest what can be done about it, I'd rather advise you to shut up. Otherwise, you can opinionate about whether Brazil is going the same way Argentina is.

I'm exposing a bit of what the country is like, stuff that the IMF doesn't consider when they make demands to the government, stuff that you seem to ignore completely and figure into the equation very realistically.

And go back under your bridge please.

Screw IMF, go isolationist, and see what happens

At least Argentina could afford that as they have pleant of natural resources. Well other than that, when are they going to repay 140 bn of debt, and the interest?

A country of 32 mil people?

Never... that's pretty much the fact.

maybe Argentina should apply to become 52nd US state

Never! We'd rather sink the country into the Atlantic before getting any nearer to the US!

That's what I mean, plenty of resources, money is only necessary in a market economy (of which we see less everyday here because there's little to no money on the street) and labour power is plentiful too.

A war economy to be enforced, with rationing and all. To get the economy started... think of the local market and the exports, organise it as best as possible and become export oriented with what we've always had a market and enough industry to supply the local market at least.

In France one motto in the past went: " L'etat c'est le CIA"
                        (the state is the CIA)

In Italy they meddled quite a bit too...

And in Greece when the juntists were torturing people in dungeons, the US officials were saying to the world that the "Junta is the best government Greece has had"....

                          For Never!

But other than that your idea is interesting, I don't know much about full effects, but something like goverment taking charge and start the economy on its own. It would not be easy to import at the beginning (as if it is now... ) but in due time someone would buy Argentinian goods as always, and life would make a round again, and if you had to live forever without foreign state debt.. well I guess Argentina spent enough already not that that will help you anyway now.

                            I've heard that one too.

1Foot, our balance of payments in term of trade is apparently balancing out because there is (quite literally) no importation going on. Zip. And exportation is going up because of the favourable exchange rate, particularly agri-business.

Although I think that the state taking over the economy until it gets started again would make everyone paranoid, including Washington, of a communist takeover and it wouldn't last because people would probably be afraid of the effects.

Interesting thought for a possible quick getaway for the people, if you would have a good leader.

But anyway, how is it on the streets, generally people still have enough food and no criminal etc?

Is life almost as normal or?

Life is hell. People are scared of going into the street. There's and 'express kidnapping' every 24 hours or more according to statistics. Unemployment has hit an alleged 20% and inflation is up by 40% in six months. You see people scavanging through rubbish and garbage all day now, and crime runs rampant and without any punishment usually.

Life hasn't been normal since the sackings took place last December. People are scared of going out and I no longer take the train or buses but rather walk home to avoid public transport.
