Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

Reds may have a point. We only like the Olympic sports we have a shot at winning .

But Americans do like soccer .
Well reds decided to make generalizations so I obliged him.
Americans are luke warm to soccer. many play it as a kid, as I did, but as they get older they drift to the American staples.
Hell any sport can have a following in the US. There is an Australian Footy league here in the US, or there used to be. Rugby also has some following in the US. But Soccer will take a long time before it is as popular as Baseball, Football or Basketball. If it ever gets to that point. NASCAR is more popular in the US then soccer is I would say. At least in the South

Or it could be that a lot of Americans just aren't interested. Just because the world goes crazy about something, doesn't mean that we have to as well. The only way soccer will get far in the US is if the average person gets fed up with the athleates in the major three sports getting too greedy. As far as I can see the fans have given them a lot of slack in the past.
One foreign sport that I actually like is Australian Footy. Of course It might be better if I knew all the rules and why in hell they have a ovel field. But it looks fun .

Reds, I never really considered race car drivers atheletes either. I still don't.

I knew what you were talking about reds. It's true that track and field etc. are much bigger in Europe than the U.S. as spectator sports, but they are big here as participation sports, and they do get attention in conjunction with the olympics because of the international competition rather than in spite of it. The U.S. does enjoy international competition, but it is not as well situated as most countries to engage in it traditionally. We are a long way from any countries near our population, which makes any international competitions likely to involve intercontinental travel. On the other hand we are so populous that we can form great big amateur and professional sports leagues, which have the necessary size to ensure good a very quality of athlete and competition. Hence our highly developed national sports system, probably the largest in the world.
He's got the Midas touch.
But he touched it too much!
