My statement was only a poor abomination of a joke, a mere barbaric generalization, and I'm sorry for that.

I'm not a complete idiot: some parts are still missing.

Well, they'll probably have highlights on Sportscenter. Or something.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

          Well done USA ..

Don't worry if you think a lot of the game was taken up with Mexico attacking and the USA desperatly defending .. its a valid tactic.

A strong defence, a great goalkeeper .. and frustrate the opposition by defending all the time, and when there all in your half, hit them on the break .. ha ha ha ha ..

It certainly leaves you pulling your hair out, especially if its only 1-0 with 10 mins to go ..

Now you know how England fans feel..

          Great work, roll on Germany

For a play by play account of the match:
The teams: Morning all. Mexico are unchanged from the 1-1 draw with Italy, but the US have made four changes. Gregg Berhalter, Pablo Mastroeni, Eddie Lewis and Josh Wolff are in; Frankie Hejduk (suspended), Jeff Agoos (injured), Clint Mathis and Ernie Stewart are out.

Not that the writer's taking the mick at all with comments such as:

"Two soccer points to no score! Eddie Lewis makes a cross-pitch play from the left zone, finding Landon Donovan alone in the danger area. He top-bodies the sphere into the score bag, and Mexico have a double-negative stat!"

...mark my words, if they get any better this is what will happen to footie commentary!

But seriously, well done to the US...

really great game. i love the tension and dynamics soccer has compared to other sports. anyhow, i haven't had the pleasure to see many usa games... do they always play so sporadic? mexico had possession 2/3 of the time played -- do teams with possession the majority of the game usually win or is that really not that big a deal?

                GO USA!

Possession is an interesting thing in football. I's useless unless you actually do something with it...

There probably is a small correlation between how much of the ball a team has and goals scored, but pacy counter-attacking teams can have under 40% of the ball and still be the most threatening side in the game.

But anyway, WELL DONE USA! It's nice to see English-speakers progressing, especially with the unlucky demise of Ireland yesterday.

BTW, did anyone watching BBC's coverage of the game notice how the commentators completely missed how Spain only had ten men for the whole of extra time?

This is a surprise. I didn´t think they´ll get this far. But this is the WC of surprises...

USA-Japan in the finals looks almost possible now...

                        Hmm...

Would be interesting but I reckon England-Germany is more likely...

And countries that don´t speak English as an official language aren´t worth ****? Really, Bodds... You get stupider by the minute. This troll is even too low to be rated with standard equipment...

Although I couldn't see the game and even if I think a world cup success is wasted on the american people and that they aren't good enough to be in a quarter final I must say that there's one team that's worse:

England (talk about un-creative midfield, at least the US side has some creativity there.)
