          Egon Olsen

One would almost think you were from East Germany, Sir Ralph.

FYI, the actor, Ove Sprogøe, although in his eighties by now is still alive and kicking.

I wonder how many of the older people here would recognize the character Mads Andersen Skjern from the TV series "Matador". We're always told it aired in 35 countries or so. Plus in Finland once the price went sufficiently down.

What about Leif Skov? Or for pure "glue onto a dartboard" qualities, Pia Kjaersgaard?

But yeah, being a scandinavian I recognise well over half of those names.

Funny you should mention Morten Andersen.

I got a birthday greeting from Andersen when I was a kid, along with some signed pictures and those football cards you can collect. He got some attention when his team somehow reached the SuperBowl, but even though he's certainly the country's richest sports star, he still isn't that well-known among the Danes.

Anders Lassen was the only foreigner to receive a Victoria Cross (posthumously) during World War II. He died in combat while leading his men in an attack on German positions in Italy.

I'm surprised to see that nobody knows about him.

I only know Kaj Munk because there's a school named after him around here.

                        And how about Morten Olsen...

I only recognized Hans Christian Anderson.

How could you leave off Lars Ulrich though! Certainly the most famous Dane alive today. /V\ETALLIC/-\!!!

I was looking forward to get to the Denmark thread so I could pick Lars, and you leave him off. For shame.

Incredible as it may sound to you, I myself have only just barely heard of Lars Ulrich. I guess I'm not too much into that line of music. If you'd given me an hour to come up with choices for famous Danes, his wouldn't even have been on the list.

                              Sorry OzzyKP.
