Jewish Federation finds Palestinian flag offensive
Actually, the issue here is clear. This really is not an act of free speech by one Dutch lady. Her husband is a government official. This is almost like the government displaying the flag.
What are you, retarded? Government officials & their wives don't have free speech rights anymore?

actually, I am not sure on that one KH. really. I remember sometthing about responsibility in such cases. encountered a similar case somewhere, don't remember now. you sure?
Dal, if Alan Greenspan's wife put an Israeli flag up on her house, it would be a total non-issue. Individuals have the right of their own beliefs, even if they are involved in government.

I have no idea what you're talking about. A government official's wife can engage in whatever acts of free speech she wants. The official himself might be putting his job on the line if he stretched the boundaries too far, but that would simply be dismissal for cause, not because of an illegal act. In their private residences government officials don't give up the right to free speech.
There is a difference between government officials of the executive branch , and congressmen and senators which are elected and have a certain immunity. The first are workers of the government , and therefor supposedly shouldn't say anything other than the government position. The second are elected and therefor have the right to say many things that "simple" citizens can't. That's at least the way in our country. Sadly they all talk too much around here .

Saint Marcus, I think someone put a Nazi Flag on your house so that their could be no doubt about your feelings on the Jewish question.
Get it through your thick skull, the support of the self-determination of the Palestinian people and opposition to the nature of the actions of the Israeli security forces is NOT the same as antisemitism or nazism...and this action of comparing the two is reckless and inflammatory

oh, sure , in the privacy of her own house. but she ( and since they live in the same house , probably him as well ) put the flag forward, as a proclamation. they could have wallpapered their entire appartment with palestinian flags for all I care. But showing the flag , is putting forward a stance.
This is not illegal , AFAIK , but is reprimanded gravely , or should be.

That's ridiculous! In an 'official' capacity they should not say anything opposing the government position... however, in the privacy of their own personal lives, they can do whatever the Hell they want. Furthermore, this was his WIFE. If you have an significant other, you try telling her, she can't voice her opinion because of your job, and see how fast she leaves you.

Next time I see someone wearing the stars and stripes on a sweatshirt I will be sure to have them arrested for wearing something so offensive to freedom loving Europeans.....
Imran : well, that's just a part of his career. and she was not doing it in private , but outside. I am not even sure that it was her. maybe it was him , and he's hiding behind her.

You're a moron. Government officials and their families have the same right to free speech that everybody else does. Idiots.
Be sure and say that again the next time Bush or another American official mentions God in a speech in the US and all the Anti-religion nuts get upset.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh
