Something is very wrong here. Opening matches always end with a draw. Sepp Blatter probably fixed the game, thereby defying the natural laws, including the unified theory of everything World Cuppy.

Despite being a favourite we only beat Bolivia 1-0 BTW. And it was the beginning of the German team's downfall :Q:

The great German downfall that included a win at Euro 96? Germany were still a top team at that tornament, it was France 98's poor showing that started the slide IMHO, once Klinsmann was no longer selected/retired it was downhill all the way.

We were kicked in the quarters in 94 and 98. So we didn't suck worse in 98 than we did in 94. 96 was good though. in 2000, we sucked again, and hopefully we won't in 2002. We certainly won't in 2006.

Great in 2006? Hmm, I'm sceptical. The only upcoming talent I can think of is Deisler. Home advantage will help though.
