    That's the thing with Nintendo. It's the tried and true guaranteed stuff and characters everyone's nice and cozy with.

    That's a boon to some people, and it pisses other people off.

    Nintendo is the Toyota of game consoles. Safe, dependable, will probably always be around.

    Not enough innovation (anymore -- they used to rule) for my tastes, it's mostly recycling characters through different types of games now.

        There are rumors that Square is making a GCN game but I don't believe it, not after Sony's $130M "investment" in Square.

        Square's just making GBA games as far as everyone knows.

        Asher, go to the website and you'll se a wealth of good games that are due out. None of which are the derivative peices of crap that you seem to be suggesting. And even a few of the franchises that you list here are taking chances with an established formula: ex. Star Fox Adventures - Dinosaur Planet.
        I haven't seen any games on GCN I'd like, all of the games with good gameplay look to be the typical games which is good gameplay but I'm bored of it.


        Could you make a list of good non-Nintendo franchised game that are coming to GCN that I can't get on the Xbox?

          As I don't keep up with the games that are coming out for the Xbox unless they get mentioned in PCGamer, that might be a little tough.

            How about just a general list then, even if they may be multiplatform?

            I'll honestly consider getting a GCN ($229CDN is a damn good deal) but I want to see what kind of games are out for it.

                You can't get Beach Spikers on the Xbox...
                Honestly, it seems like a cool game, pity only it doesn't hit us this holyday, it's a typical holyday-chill out kind of game.

                And it has it's graphic highlights if I put it that way...

                Furthermore, NBA Street (PS2, NGC) is yet another reason I got inclined towards NGC.

                Die Hard: Vendetta (NGC) seems cool as well...

                  Super Monkey Ball is a ridiculously fun game for the GameCube. It should not be as fun as it is. Well worth the price of the game, at least. SSBM is also a blast, as long as you have someone to play with. Even single-player is fun. And Pikmin is simply amazing.

                  My fiancee and I haven't had the time to look at the more recent games, but all three of those get the strongest possible recommendation from me.

                    Xbox sales are extremely flat in Europe and especially in Japan.

                    I am very surprised that Glonk is upset by Sony's marketing ploy. Afterall, MS has been doing the same thing for years.

                      They're neck and neck with GC as of the last figures.
                      Xbox has sold 500,000 so far, GC 400,000 in Europe.

                      Japan, yeah. I think they should pull out. Japanese gamers are not in the Xbox market demographic.

                        I like console FPSes (coop mode mandatory).
                        I like racing games (Rally, F1, GT, etc -- No NASCAR and that crap)
                        I like innovative platform games. I cannot stand playing platform games that all play the same with different characters and levels.
                        I like arcade games (Gunvalkyrie, Panzer Dragoon, etc)
                        I like soccer and hockey games.
                        I like MMORPGs.

                            I guess you never saw my opinion of Star Wars in the Star Wars threads, did you?

                            And I would seriously doubt "it looks more fun than Halo".

                            Have you played Halo in depth? There's a reason why GameSpy and all call it the best FPS ever.

                            How does this game look "more fun" than Halo?
                            And how does it compare to SW: Galaxies (Xbox) and SW: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox)?

                              I've heard some reputable sources say that Halo gets extremely boring after you play it a while. Very repetitive, apparently...

                                All games are repetitive, it depends how much you like the game.

                                I think it's incredible, mainly because I played it through all the way solo with all difficulties (even Legendary) then went back and still play missions as co-op with my brother and friends over. It's really amazing how awesome the AI is at higher difficulties, definitely plays like a different game.

                                Quite fun, best game I've played in years.

                                But people who aren't quite fond of FPSes will get bored after a bit, but still enjoy it at first at least.
