Dieting is a waste of time. It actually makes you fatter in the long run because it teaches you metabolism to stock fat whenever you are eating to cope with the next diet.

The only way to lose weight is to exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet.

But people should be happy with their body - if they are healthy that's the main thing.

So, Tia, if I wanted to lose weight, what should I do?
Other than start eating less, since as you said it yourself quoting Fat Bastard, that's the hardest part...

Eat a healthy diet, cut out fatty foods and cut down on sugar and salt, do some regular light exercise. Is that so hard?

Hmmm. Dinner tonight was chicken breast, peas, and steamed spinach with chopped garlic. (good starchild good!)
I put butter on my veggies. (bad starchild bad!)

Had a bowl of cereal and an apple for breakfast. (good starchild good!)
Had pizza with creamy dipping sauce for lunch. (bad starchild bad!)

I think I'm maintaining a balance of sin and virtue when it comes to my diet.

it depends on what environment you live in and how much time you have on your hands... i think that sleeping well figures high in that dieting order too.

Tia~ I'm in the same boat with you. Not due to having children though...I credit my severe overweightness to "depression". Eating coz I'm too damn fat to do anything else. I'd like to lose 150 pounds myself. My recent move has forced me into a little exercise..it's not a lot, but it is a start. I don't necessarily eat a lot nor a lot of "junk" food. I am just absolutely inactive. Since my move into an apartment complex a month ago, it has forced me to have to take my dog out for walks...as she cannot just simply go out alone here. So, on average I'm walking with the dog about 45 minutes to an hour a day...and will slowly build that up.

I'm wanna wish you good luck, let ya know I support you and if you need a shoulder to vent...feel free to email or pm me!

              Good Luck!!

One thing about exercise - you don't have to knock yourself out - this is what makes most people give up.

Latest research shows regular gentle exercise like walking or cycling if just as beneficial as short bursts of intense exercise such as gym work or jogging. You just have to do the gentle stuff for a little longer.

Currently I'm a happy little cyclist

I have no idea how difficult it can be being overweight.

But I wish you success, Tia.

AH ~ Diet and exercise together is what works as well as changing your eating habbits for good. And about the fat thing, I am one of those unfortuante or fortunate people, depending how you look at it who carries themselves and the weight quite well. Yes I look like a "healthy woman" but not someone who has these rolls of fat everywhere.

The thyroid issue usually is one that helps most people. Most people with thyroid problems will either gain (hypo thyroid) or loose (hyper thyroid) weight, but since having cancer in mine.....well it's virtually non existant. They had to take out so much of my thyroid gland that it really doesn't do much of anything anymore. They left just enough in to fool my body into thinking it was there so as not to keep me on medication for the rest of my life.

Ok Ishtar you and me, mano e mano! Let's do this and see how healthy we can get!

My bottom line is I just want to get healthy, feel good and get back to a managable weight that I can feel good about accomplishing.

Oh yeah......thanks everyone for the support and kind words. It makes it just a bit easier to have a place to go when you need it.
Welcome to earth, my name is Tia and I'll be your tour guide for this trip.

One major tip - Water. Drink lots and lots of water. more importantly, don't drink anything else (except possibly milk in the morning for calcium)

Sugary drinks is the nail in the coffin of any diet, and even diet soda isn't as good for you as water.

                              Water water water
