Lethal Injection still causes 'pain' to its victim. The higher functions are shut down by forms of sedative to avoid the thrashing and screaming.

You could try a shotgun in the mouth. I can assure you wouldn't be conscious of any pain if there was any. Its hard to be concious when the brain in pieces.

I have seen photos of the results of such a suicide. What a mess. The cretin had decided the police would never take him alive. Well at least he saved California the expense of a multiple murder and robbery spree trial. He and his partner killed four highway patrollman before he killed himself. Some of the worst photos I ever had to deal with in the photo lab I was working in. Came to me because he didn't want some kid to have to deal with it. It was for a true crime article.
