Oi, I hope, hope, this turns out to be good.

Unless those Liberal wieners at Time have steered me wrong again.

I saw Star Wars Episode Two: Attack of the Clones hours ago. The ‘how’ of that will be a thing of mystery buried in a passed piece of paper from my book signing with a hotel, a room number and a time listed upon it. You don’t want to know...

It sounds like it may be a true return to form for Lucas.
I don't think it "leaked", rather Harry Knowles was invited to a private screening (in a hotel room, iirc) of an AOTC rough cut a month or so ago.

I saw a review by somebody who pre-screened the movie at TruthMedia. They weren't very favorable.

Come to think of it, Lucas should have invested more time in all aspects of Episode Two's production. On a technical level, the film feels very rushed in disjointed, probably because LucasArts is rushing to finish this film in time to compete with "Spider-Man," which will no doubt trounce Episode Two in domestic box office profits, according to all the analysts I've spoken to off the record. And I'm an industry insider here, not some fat fanboy with a web page.

Actually, people might be more positive towards this than they were towards Phantom Menace. Everyone went to see Phantom Menace excepting something truly mind-blowing - everyone goes to see Attack of the Clones hoping it's somewhat better than the crapfest Phantom Menace was but preparing for the worst.

              Anakin looks a complete ****.

              He should look awe-inspiring.

They still have that 'couldn't-act-herself-out-of-a-paper-bag' Princess.

              God, this will be mediocre.

He should've been me. Hell, I've got the voice of James Earl Jones; you could have closed your eyes and pretended you were at a good Star Wars movie.

Shouldn't he look like that? He's supposed to be a pompous teen, not the whiny brat that luke was.

I thought the princess wasn't that bad of an actor, personally.
But then, her only role in the first movie was: "They're attackign our planet. Make the bad men stop."

The comments on how a democracy becomes a dicatorship is pretty interesting, especially as some say the USA is heading towards it. Wow. A star wars movie with symbolism. Hasn't been one of those for about 20 years.

One look... I didn't like him. I'm not thinking he's creepy like Vader. I'm thinking he deserves a pool cue in the face.

Regarding the Princess being 'not that bad of an actor (or actress even I guess) there was nothing regal about her. The scenary had more stage presence. Jar-Jar had more stage presence.

Has anyone felt the need to address the dumb title? Attack of the Clones? My 12 year old sister could have come up with a better title than that, for God's sakes.

That is the point. I think you are supposed to come out of it wanting to whip that arrogent Skywalker... and no one sees Vader coming out of it.

                        Lucas wanted a cheesy title.

Not like 'The Empire Strikes Back' was non-cheesy .

Yep, but more like Germany especially with Chancellor Palpatine asking for emergency powers because of a successionist war involving labor unions.

This movie is looks very, very, very good. The Republic starts to unravel under war. Anakin is a spoiled brat, which the Chancellor is praising and building up his arrogant nature. While the Jedi are powerless to resist him while being blinded by the Clone War. Ahhh, Star Wars .

Shouldn't that tell you what demographic the movie is aiming for?

The actor that plays Anakin in this new movie is a no-name Canadian actor that only had any real previous acting experience in the absolutely horrible "Higher Ground" TV show about a troubled teen. Now Lucas appoints him to be Version 2.0 of the whiney Anakin brat that can't act, and hope that the masses don't care and go to see it because it's STAR WARS and because its got some CGI in it. Amazing.

Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "

What was 'A New Hope', 'Empire Strikes Back', 'Return of the Jedi' aiming for? Yep, same demographic .

Because Mark Hamill could really act?

I thought the point of a film was to have some characters where you actually care about if they live or die.

Ewan McGregor is utterly miscast. He was fantastic as a Scottish junkie in Trainspotting, fabulous as a Scottish reporter in Shallow Grave. Its been downhill since then. His role as a Jedi, is a low point.

Jar-Jar; we want to see it die.

The Princess; I don't care if she dies or not.

Samuel L Jackson is a pretty good Jedi, FWIW.

Christopher Lee is an unknown. Anything will be better than Darth Maul.

Personnally, as far as I can see, I have empathy with one character.

I think Lucas has spent so much effort trying to prove whether he could have this digital universe, he never thought whether he should.

Ten minutes of Pearl Harbor was worth watching. I predict the same from ATOC.

I actually didn't like the first three movies much either. Rather typical good vs. evil, bad special effects (my standards are so much higher since I was only born in '83 ).

But ILM was a great spinoff, and being the first film to use Surround Sound are plusses.

But I've never understood why it's such a big phenomenon.
