Did you know that NSync were filmed for Ep.2? Its unknown whether they'll use the footage

[EDIT] I've found some statements by NSync saying they've been dropped.

Still amusing that they were involved in the project.

Star Trek mostly sucks too, save for the last half of DS9's lifespan.

I do like great cinema, and TPM was not it. Many of the performances were dire.

Never said TPM was a great movie... It was the introduction, the exposition. Hell, in LOTR, the first book was just ... it is the backstory and thus makes it boring. Now we are into the meat of it.

Harrison Ford and Alex Guiness and the voice of James Earl Jones were fabulous. That was a breakout performance for Harrison Ford.

And in TPM (though it wasn't that great at all), Liam Nealson and Ewen McGregor were good. Not to mention the great performance by Iain McDermot.

And the original trilogy had it's share of bad actors.

You haven't seen AOTC, and from what I've seen so far it looks much better than TPM and more on the level of ANH, if not ESB.

Check out the Jango Fett commercial. Finally we get see the Mandalorin armor in action. One of the things I hated the most about RotJ was the way they got rid of Fett.
Well, there were also those Gummi Bears... um, Ewoks.

--"Darth Maul was awesome! A great villan."

Except his end, too. Great sabre fight except the last little bit.
From what I've read, they cut out most of Maul's interesting scenes (where he actually says something). He's apparently supposed to appear much more clued in on things than he did in the theatrical release. I'm sure there'll be multiple DVD releases with varying footage, so we'll probably find out sooner or later.

However, from what I've read about what Lucas has planned, I'm still pretty lukewarm about AotC. It can't be as bad as TPM, but I don't expect anything like ESB, either.

--"Still amusing that they were involved in the project."

Apparently one of Lucas' daughters is a big fan. I'm just happy that his sense of shame got the better of him.

              TPM BREAKDOWN...

Darth Maul - Great villian, but needed more lines. Death scene was weak.

Ewan McGregor - Great casting, he even looks like Alec Guiness, a little.

Jar Jar, and the kid sucked ass. The pod racing sequence was visually great, but pointless.

I would have liked to see more of the planning on the dark side. Darth Sidious (duh Palpatine) had a great presence.

The Gun-gun battle scene was so-so. I liked seeing the battle, but watching Jar-Jar bounce around on the tanks was just stupid.

The light sabre battles at times looked too planned. I would rather have the intense style battle from Empire Strikes back than the martial arts choreographed nonsense in TPM. The worst part about the light sabre battles was when the Jedi were fighting the droids. It was blatantly obvious ObiWan and QuiGon were just spinning around in planned moves rather than actually fighting droids. I understand the difficulty in CG character interaction with live actors, but it was borderline pathetic.

And one other thing. For Naboo being a pretty large planet, there wasn't a lot of interstellar travel going on. There have to be trillions of people in the Star Wars galaxy, plus trillions more alien types. You'd think that big water fall where the StarFighters took off from would be a tourist trap. Sometimes, little things like that just ruin movies.

I do think AOTC will make up for some of the mistakes in TPM. If it turns out the story is weak, I guess the special effects scenes will be cool. Maybe I'll get stoned and see it.

Don't forget that the planet was under blockade...
That would kind of put a damper on interstellar travel

One of my major problems with TPM were the 'slapstick' accidents that somehow managed to save the day. I could perhaps forgive one in the movie, maybe. But there were several. Anikin 'accidently' landing inside the main blockade ship and 'accidently' pressing the button to fire the lasers while it was coincidently aimed at the only vulnerable point on the entire ship...
Jar Jar 'accidently' killing droids in the battle THROUGH his incompetence...

Things like that just aren't funny, and take away from the story's believability as well.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

--"The light sabre battles at times looked too planned."

The light sabres got some great use, though. Watching Qui-Gon try to cut his way into the control center was great. There was also a scene were Obi-Wan shorted out his sabre in a lake (that's why he was running from that one droid when they were on Naboo the first time), but the lines explaining that got cut.

As far as the battles go, the duel at the end was great (except, as I've said, for the very end). Ray Parks (the guy who played Darth Maul) did an amazing amount of those stunts unassisted.
This kind of thing was pretty much the main reason I was looking forward to TPM. Watching Jedi duels from a time when the Jedi were at the height of their power. Before that we only had old men, cyborgs, and largely untrainted kids. It'll be interesting to see Jedi like Mace Windu and Yoda mixing it up.

With regard to LOTR being boring... it is long... but far from boring. 112 out of 117 professional critics agree.

AOTC has the same director/producer as TPM. The same writing style, due to the same writer. A number of the same actors and only a few recognized 'stars' with real acting pedigree.

When I think of an actor of being excellent, then that means that I think that no one else would 'fit' that role better. For example, Al Pacino in Godfather. If you watch the screen tests, you understand why. McGregor is merely an OK jedi, not someone who I thought 'He nailed it'. He was an entirely more convincing junkie.

Speaking of villians Darth Maul was quiet obviously a product of marketing. Again, he was not 'awesome' in the manner of, say Robert Patrick in Terminator 2, Rutger Hauer in The Hitcher, Robert Mitchum in Night of the Hunter, or Andrew Robinson in Dirty Harry. These people nailed their villain roles. The truth is... there arent many villains any more, most are questionable anti-heroes, such as Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs or Titus.

Dart Maul is swimming in mediocraty.

Natalie Portman was ruined by the writing. I realized where I saw her before... Leon... and she was really good in that.

                      TPM & AOTC
The cast is the same (with a few exceptions)
                      The writer is the same
                      The producer is the same
                      The director is the same
                      The studio is the same

Whilst it might be a bit better that TPM, I'm thinking that theres every chance of it being mediocre.

I almost never read the trilogy because of that first ****ing book.

I'll keep my posts short, then, so I don't go over your attention span.

My point is that Ep1 sucked, and has almost identifical constituent parts to Ep2. That, in my book, means that there is a greater likelihood that ep2 will suck.

FOTR sucked, that didn't mean that TT or ROTK sucked in LOTR .

Same constituent elements in each .

MrBaggins is making a lot of sense to me.

                                I didn't like American Graffiti, I didn't like SW1, 4, 5, or 6, so I'm guessing I probably won't like 2 either.
