  • I wanna join a cult

So what are some good cults?

Cults are pretty funny. I would just join and laugh at everyone. I'm watching this old 20th century program on the history channel. I was so young when all of that stuff happened in the 70's and 80's. I just don't remember much of it. They had the guy from India who built an entire town in Oregon. And then the Korean guy Moon. Funny stuff. It's amazing how gullible people are. It makes you wonder how society even exists and doesn't fall apart.

And then the deprogramming scene. That was really funny. Kind of like that simpsons episode which is one of my favourite simpsons episodes.

I suppose you could say the U.S. goverment is a cult. This is the glue that keeps society together. Because I can't understand how millions of gullible people can form a society. The U.S. goverment tells them what they want to hear, and things run fairly smoothly. You could also say the Catholic church is a cult . They keep things running fairly smoothly as well.

Are there any web sites for cults that would be fairly amusing. I know I shouldn't laugh at these people, but I am not a good man. I'm a bad man, a very bad man

note: the cults I mentioned above didn't involve mass murder. I'm not that insensitive to the poor people that were murdered. Well maybe a little

It's my understanding that the most popular cult in the world revolves around worshipping an awfully-nice fellow who was nailed to a tree around 2,000 years ago. Perhaps that's a good place to start.

Why people would want to join a cult anyway is totally beyond me. I agree with the World Union of Deist's definition of a cult:

"...any organization that encourages people to believe or act without reason."

So therefore, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc. are all cults. All have the intent of mind control over the masses. All of them fear individuality and free will.

"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." -- Benjamin Franklin
"Yes, we did produce a near-perfect republic. But will they keep it? Or will they, in the enjoyment of plenty, lose the memory of freedom? Material abundance without character is the path of destruction." -- Thomas Jefferson

What exactly do you mean? Though I am a buddhist (a philosophy, not a religion), I still agree with some of the points Deism makes about 'Revealed Religion'. How is it that Deism (again, philosophy and not religion) robs people of their free will and individuality?

Branch Davidian always held a special place in my heart

yeah but they don't exist anymore.

same with that cult in san diego that wore Nike sneakers. They don't exist either.

I'm not too interested in cults that preform murder, suicide, or other violent acts. I do have some moral values after all.

Become an Episcopalian. They don't call us "Whiskey-palians for nothing!

Down in this part of the South there are still alot of folks who consider Roman Catholicism a cult. I still occasionally see bumper stickers that say:

                  I'm a CHRISTIAN
                  -not a catholic

                  Go figure it.

Religion is voluntary - it only robs me of my free will if I join. If someone makes me join a religion, they are robbing me of my free will, not the religion.
                    I refute it thus!
"Destiny! Destiny! No escaping that for me!"

Never said that, merely that it "encourages people to believe or act without reason" (ie believe in God for "without reason").

                        I love your sarcasm.

He was not nailed to a tree -- he was tied, then nailed to, and then erected upon a large cross.

And if you used the word nice sarcastically, he really was one of the least corrupted people that existed. That is just part of my belief.

Why on Earth would I be sarcastic about that? Jesus (if he did exist) was, by all accounts, incredibly nice.

My point was that the distinction between "cult" and "religion" is awfully hazy. Indeed, I get the impression that most people define "cult" as "every belief other than my religion."

People join cults because they want friends, basically. And it's pretty friggan easy to get in a cult, and exceedingly easy to get out of one. Far from hounding you to stay, they want you to leave if you have problems, so you don't infect the others.

What kind of cult do you want to join, Dissident? You could join the Scientologists, but that costs massive amounts of money. Just about any town will have some kind of CHRISTIAN church, no denomination, that claims to be the only true Christian church. There are any number of Eastern cults you could join, such as the Natural Law Party. There are UFO cults, people who believe they were abducted by aliens. There are poltical cults, like the two I was in. There's the military. There are even psychological cults, like Synanon.

Just pick the type of cult you want and do a search on the internet, you'll find it.

Keep away from the Cult Awareness Network. It was taken over by a cult, the Scientologists, in order to keep them from talking about he Scientologists.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

err I don't really want to join a cult. I just want to laugh at them. I'm not nearly gullible enough to join a cult. In fact I may be the least gullible person I know. I learned the hard way early in my life after loaning money out.
