Ok Orange, if you want to make jack-ass of yourself, go make a t-shirt that says Straight-Pride and celebrate how white straight men had to overcome sooooo much discrimination.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.
Ah, yes... when you think that the leaders of the homosexual movement were getting smarter, they go about and continue this .
What better way to say that homosexuals are equal and should be accepted by society than to seperate themselves from straights in sports

Hey, these have been around for years, first of all.
Second of all, I agree with you.
Third of all, the "leaders of the homosexual movement" didn't arrange it.
They go against the case they want.

I hear you... they should instead promote homosexuals to try out for the REAL Olympics, and make the Gay Games into more of a fair/carnival type deal with sports not in the Olympics (though there aren't too many I guess).

I think they're big in swimming too.

orange has a point. He objects to any preferential treatment to be given to any group of people. In principle I agree with that. Consider Affrimative Action or something silly along the same line. What it implies is these people cannot make it on their own merits and abilities alone, so the bar needs to be lowered for them.
Not only this hurts the group of people, but it also causes resentment in those who may otherwise support the cause.

I couldn't care less if the gays want to have their own games. It doesn't hurt any one and they just want to have fun so let them.
The whiners here are annoying. Next we'll get the Americans complaining that they're not allowed to compete in the Commonwealth games of the Canada Games. Ya can just hear them starting to cry: "Reverse discrimination."
Wow, it's been a while since I've seen so many moronic comments in a single thread. Orange in particular, for shame.
The Gay Games, formerly the Gay Olympics, was started years ago, in large part as a response from gay men to the stereotype that they were effeminite, weak, and unathletic. It also provided a venue for gay athletes who felt unwelcome in the often inhospitable atmosphere of the sports world. The idea was to create a forum where gay people could get together to compete, show off their athletic prowess, and enjoy some solidarity while publically shooting down an old sterotype.
I cannot imagine why this would be so offensive to so many around here.
Maybe if you tried living as a minority in a straight-drenched world you could understand the joyous sensation of release and freedom that accompanies the rare opportunity of being in a large crowd of people like yourself.
I have no problem with the Gay Games, or for that matter allowing people of whatever stripe to decide who they want to associate with and creating groups to further this. I do have a problem when not everyone is afforded the same rights to associate that others have. This just causes unnecessary friction. Discrimination will be eliminated one person at a time in their heart. The government will not succeed in using force to change people's hearts, and only partly successful in modifying people's outward behavior. Let everyone have their club, and don't quit working for the respect of everyone who deserves it.

But he touched it too much!
Hey Goldmember, Hey Goldmember!
One thing I have to wonder about the whole "Why can't we have a straight parade/ union/ games?"... has anyone who's asking these questions ever tried to set up such an event?
Chances are, if word got around, then people who have the mindset "this'll show them damn homos a thing or two" will crawl out of the woodwork and get involved, and soon it won't be about promoting* heterosexuality, it'll be about running down homosexuality. I'd personally love to see people make totally tolerant and inclusive straight events- no one should have anything against them, and if they do, why the hell should we care about their opinion anyway?
*This is why people are saying that "straight parades" would be defunct- heterosexuality simply doesn't need any promotion further than what it alrady has!
Well no one bothered reading my post... and I will make my point more simple: These events will only worsen discrimination.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)
