Oh it is? I didn't know that... both are cool shows though.

BTW, Randy Harrison (Justin) has had a boyfriend for many years now. Oh well. [/QUOTE]

My luck is pretty bad anyways.

I am guessing more than the % difference. A poor example, but one where I grew up is central Wisconsin. There any gays that might have been born there have gone to larger cities and skewed their % of gay population.Another area would be large retirement communities or even bible belt communities(excepting catholic priest areas ) I really doubt in rural towns of 1000 there are 50 gays or even 25 for that matter, but hey I am not a gay census worker so who knows. Perhaps its 30% and they are all hiding somewhere. Living the past 18 years in a high gay populated Madison,Wisconsin I sure became used to gay population areas. Now that I am in BC,Canada I certainly see less.
I think we should get Starchild to go door to door and count every gay member of the world Hmmm perhaps not since he would never get the job done once he made new friends
I agree with the less than 1% theory, but I think its a statistic that we will never truly know + or - 10%.

I am originally from a small town of only 300 people, where just about everyone was Catholic. It was surrounded by farms and their fields.

Guess what?? Even in that village, there were two lesbians there, but they felt that they had to move because it was way too uncomfortable there. I cannot blame them.

What I mean with smaller towns, is that most of them probably have at least one or two gays or lesbians, or bisexuals.

You exaggerated my statement about small towns.

      • Congratulations Giancarlo if you are going to adhere to it. But the problem is that this is a 'boy who cried wolf too many times' scenario. Give it time, don't start going off at gays because you can't accept yourself. Just stay clear of those topics that wind you up or make you nervous about being who you are. Just gin and bear it, because you have a difficult task ahead of you.

Thank you for the advice... how difficult of a task do you think it will be?

          • Well it depends on how easy going your environment is Gian, your parents, your friends. If you aren't in a particularly progressive atmosphere, it is going to be more difficult. But remember, you will get your chance to flourish, when you get to university, when you make new circles of friends, etc...

Well my parents probably are accepting... they aren't religious or anything like that... and my friends are pretty much accepting because I already talked to some about how they view gays...

                  • Giancarlo, coming out is different for each individual, based on their own self, their family, and their friends.

No one can really tell you how difficult it would be, unless we knew more about the lives that your family and friends live.

Best to keep it that way too Gian, I was only joking about the alcohol.

Well a little wine when I go to resturants... but only once in awhile.

                            • Giancarlo, I know nothing about your family or your friends, or where you live. So my coming out that I experienced could be completely different from what you're experiencing.

But still, if you do not mind, maybe I can help by sharing basically how I experienced coming out.

First of course, I came out to myself, realizing a part of what I really am. Went for the gun case, opened it, but the gun was not there. Not sure if I would have gone ahead with suicide if the gun was there, but glad it wasn't.

Then, I came out to my family and my friends. Over the months after I came out to my mother, and my older brother, we actually formed closer family relations. With my three older sisters -- they have all tried to varying degrees, to understand this part of me, and try to accept me.

As for our community priest, he came down to my mother's house and we talked with him about my sexual orientation. He said that I could continue attending his church if I wanted to, but I should know that the official Church doctrine was against homosexual BEHAVIOR. So basically, he was telling me that I could never have sex in my life unless I forced myself to have sex with women.

My friends that lived in the same rural town I lived in originally, all accepted me after I came out to them.

So remember -- this was what I experienced in a small Catholic white town of only 300 people. I moved about a year after I came out.

I consider myself lucky -- even my relatives still welcome me to family gatherings. My dad was dead from a stroke for about two years when I came out.

I don't know if hearing about other people's experiences in coming out would help you at all, but I hope it does.

                              • Yeah I understand... it seems I already came out to myself, and I just came out to my friend over email, he was surprised but accepting. I will talk to him about it tomorrow.
