lets clear this up:

1. human knowledge is gained through induction and deduction.
2. induction allows you to make predictions about things you haven't experienced by using information about previous experience. more experience allows stronger inductive conclusions.
3. generalizations are linguistic expressions of inductive reasoning, using categories "all", "most", "many", "some", "few", "none" to describe inductive conclusions (to be completely accurate one would have to relate the exact percentages in addition to the size of the data set).
4. experimentation is a method of carrying out actions to increase data used for inductive conlcusions.
5. human reasoning embodied in the scientific method has destroyed the basis for religious misunderstanding of the world by creating the basis for scientific understanding of the world.
6. when faced with the insoluble contradiction between reason and religion, religious obscurantists attack reason itself.
7. the specific form in which kaak attacks generalizations is the binary metaphysical belief that either you can know everything or you can know nothing. humans cannot know the entire universe, but we do experience some of it and this partial knowledge allows us to understand the way it works well enough to manipulate it to accomplish our desires. we do not always have correct theories or succeed, but humans are able to succeed to a much higher degree than any animal without cognitive capacity, and humans with a scientific methodology are able to succeed to a much higher degree than humans without it. a theory that gives correct results more than random chance would give is a better theory than no theory.
8. kaak's denial of the use of generalizations is a denial of inductive reasoning and human cognitive and descriptive capacity. it is based on the impossibility of reconciling religious dogma with reason. kaak chooses to maintain his superstitious beliefs and deny science.
9. Science should be used to understand the historical origins of religious belief as having arisen in a time when we didn't understand the world very well, and used in class societies as a method of ideological control.

but it is unlikely that arguing with nationalist religious homophobic bigots like kaak will change their minds. instead ****heads like him should be swept into the dustbin of history by a socialist revolution.

first off, go back and read my last post in the bigot thread. Secondly, i do not deny science. I'm actually a big fan.

I'm not sure where you got that, but it is grossly inaccurate. I merely stated that you cannot say that gerenalizations are good and accurate in and of themselves. it is wholly dependant on that which they referance. The polar opposite is true is well; generalizations cannot be bad of themselves either. by the very substance of the word a generalization must generalize SOMETHING. that said, it is also true of generalizations that every generalization will be wrong some of the time.

finally, i would like to note that i have not proposed or defended any "superstitious beliefs" in this thread. You seem to be harboring some bitterness about something that was obviously misconstrued. If you would like to talk about it, you are more than welcome to PM me.
