Another example of rigged judging. This one ranked up there as one of the most blatant. It takes the luster out of Russian Dominance in the sport.

But we're not experts. We aren't knowledgeable enough to rank the performances in terms of difficulty.

But having said that, the announcers summed it up perfectly as they were walking to the podium.

    Not an exact quote but...

I feel sorry for them (referring to the Can. couple)
I feel sorry for the Russians to have to win that way.
It's an embarrassment to our sport.

At least the crowd showed good sportsmanship during the medal presentation and didn't boo. Even though you could tell that they didn't cheer quite as loud for the Russians.

This is exactly why figure skating isn't a sport. Any competition that relies entirely on some judges' collective subjective interpretation of "artistry" is NOT a sport. Athletic, yes. But no way is this a sport; no way should this nonsense be in the Olympics.

I guess we should consider the previous days performance as a factor as well. At the very end of the "short" (compulsory) routine the Canadian pair slipped. The girl was supposed to lean back on the guys right arm, but slipped and slid to the floor. The guy adeptly caught her and softened her fall, but to anyone watching closely it was obvious that she had fallen.

True, but one could argue that their scores for the first night reflected that, and the position in second place. That should have had no impact on their second night's score. There's a reason why the first night only counts 1/3.

Everybody knows figure skating is like this, and has been for years. The Russians would have had to collapse and be unable to finish in order to lose.

Usually, you're right, but RAW sucked the meat missile last night.

And I wholeheartedly concur that the Canadians got screwed... there's no way the Russians should have gotten even ONE 5.9 for presentation, let alone a whole STRING of them, considering how awkward and disjointed their skate was; and the Canadians should've had at least ONE 6 for that performance. It's the second Olympics in a row the judges have handed the gold to the wrong couple, and even the most casual watcher should start to get suspicious at this point.

Take a look at these, guys... it's the judges' scorecards from last night.

Right off the bat, I point the Finger of Suspicion at the Chinese & Polish judges. Both pairs tied for overall score from each judge (China gave each pair a combined 11.7, Poland 11.6). But, both judges gave the Canadians higher technical marks, and made up the difference for the Russians in presentation. Again, as I said, the judges' marks for the Russians' presentation were ridiculously high (because their performance was awkward and disjointed) and both the Chinese and Polish judges ranked the Russians higher overall based on that suspect presentation.

                  Thoughts.

I think it's obvious to any who saw it the Canucks were better.

But I'm told that the Cadanian guy is an arrogant pr1ck with a giant ego in RL (By a guy who practised with him, so who knows if it really true), so, that context, I'm glad he lost, but the gal seemed like a gamer, especially after taking that hit in practice.

Looking at the scores in details tell me two things.

                      1. That the judges are biased base on the lineup of countries.

                      2. It's the French's fault

I thought the French liked the Canadians

We all know who the real winners are.

History will remenber this one as " The day the Canadians were screwed".
