Technically speaking, it's always written in hebrew characters, the pronounciation (and actually, the spelling of many words) of which varied from region to region. But I'll try:

            Warsaw dialect:

Yakh libe tzu redn yiddish, ober es iz nisht mein mame-loshn.

            Lodz dialect:
kh'rede yiddish mit mein zede, er iz fun Lodz. Es iz a mikhaye far im tzu redn yiddish mit mir.

            Galitzyaner dialect:
Vus mokhstu haint in di fri? Ikh gehe tzu di shul oon davenen mit di yidn. S'gibt in di shul a yid fun Oscweim, in galitziye. Er zogt dos ikh rede litvish.

            Lithuanian dialect (litvish):
Mein tates zede var fun Zhlobin in lite, ober er var nit kain litvak. Zain shtet hot a sakh khosidim gehobt, oon er hot zain gefilte-fish mit tzuker oon nit mit kein pfefer gekokht. Fun vu komt daine mishpoche?

              I know english

I was forced to take some language in highschool and college

highschool only offered spanish, I rebelled and went and took french at a community college (took care of 2 birds with one stone)

at the end of that I would say I could comunicate at a basic level ( well read and write on a basic level, my speech is always weak and people have a hard time understanding my english)

in the almost 4 years since then my speech is even worse for the little bit I remember and my memory is spotty

so I guess I do not take to languages very well

can someone tell me what you have done to the irish?

they do have a language of their own have they not?

                  why do they speak english?

i asked an irish girl once why don;t you kick the english language out

and after she pretended to kcik the air and repeat after me «kick it out yeah!» she lowered the head and with a shy voice she told me «because we need the trade»

                  what's up with that?

really why do they not sdpeak irish?

and she was a cute irish girl too

Yes, well remember that this organisation has killed more civilians than the 11th Sept. incident did

And yes, there is an Irish language (Gaelic) but it is rarely spoken.

Well it's like any of these ancient gaelic class of languages, they were as good as dead but some kind of pride in heritage seems to have resurrected them. Welsh was almost dead in Wales too. I find it almost ironic that the new wave of Welsh independence is actually a result of heritage preservation by a British government Same in Ireland. If you go down the pub, no one will be speaking Gaelic (except in some really remote backwaters). Same in most of Wales, everyone speaks English. England has been dominant in the British Isles for many, many centuries and it shows.
