  • Mac - "I'd like to remind everyone that imagining how worse it is for someone else is irrational and stupid and only helps assuage guilt. Instead imagine how much better your life can be (within reason). You aren't those other people and you can never feel what they feel, trying to solves nothing."

in ten years search apolyton and reread that. youll hopefully understand it by then. Humility.

Dissident has a good point. dont take it all too seriously.

and someone mentioned "memorize lame jokes." another good one. so long as they are lame enough jokes...

I have no right to be prudish about this but have you ever considered what kind of lives those girls lead? Its a tragic waste, even if they are well treated and paid. Many are single mothers or deserted wives who are nly in that game because of societal prejudice and the lack of a social safety net.

Also I know exactly what you are talking about having lived in Bangkok and Jakarta but I don't this is something that should recommended on a forum that is full of impressionable and unworldly youngsters.

Strangelove, am I right in advising depression sufferers that exercise helps? That's what I was told when my flatmate slipped into a deep depression and refused to get out of bed for days on end.

As a complement to that, there is also, "I sought out to find friends and I found none. I sought out to BE a friend and I found them everywhere."

          • Exercise most DEFINITELY helps. Without going into the sordid details y'all don't care about, at one point I was in love (not in lust, seriously in love) with a girl I couldn't have for various reasons. I was depressed to the point where I'd act like a total ass to most of my friends at times. But you know what helped? Exercise. For me, that meant getting even more heavily involved into martial arts, working out on heavy bags, etc. Felt so much better during and after doing that.

I still get depressed about other stuff (various things, not gonna go into it except to say that it's in the same vein as many of the other comments on here by MacTBone and others) once in a while, but really it's not that bad anymore, not that bad at all. I still get plenty of exercise, not only martial arts but also tennis, which helps a great deal in all aspects of life (attitude, health, physical fitness, looks, etc.).

And let's not forget the curative effects of alcohol

Although in all seriousness I really DO NOT recommend getting drunk or even drinking that much alcohol while depressed, it makes matters worse. Trust me.

            • excersize does help- though I can't spell it

it really helps if that excersize is in the way of sex, but that is another subject entirely

the hard part is getting the motivation to excersize. I've been there. 1996 was the lowest point in my life. But even in September I have been depressed. And the longer I don't go out and excersize, the harder it is. It's like a downward spiral.

But once you start, and if you establish, a good routine, then things get easier. The important part is getting a good routine. Whenever something breaks my excersize routine, I fall off the wagon for weeks at a time.

Hmmm. Well, if they're able to exercise then they're really not that depressed. Disability denied. Next case!

(It might help some, and it probably won't hurt unless their suicide fantasy is to throw themselves in front of a car.)

LOL! Too funny. Most of the girls here are NOT in the category you describe. Most are girls who make the following decision: "Yes, I come from a good home, but a part-time job earns me about $1.50 hour. I can earn $500 easy in a few hours at night doing this stuff. And, hey, I just *have* to have the latest fashions, so here I go."

That's how it is here in growing numbers. And the kiddies on Poly might actually learn something about the 'real world' by understanding that.

                  • are you talking about street prostitutes or one's in whorehouses/brothels? there is a huge difference.

as you know, street prostitutes do fit into that category often times. I can show you some pictures of street prostitutes if you want. Granted you aren't supposed to judge from a picture, but you can see it in their eyes. Drugs are the main cause for this though.

But on the other hand, women in brothels have a much better life. but still even then there are circumstances. Women in brothels in the dutch island of St. martiin were colombian mostly. Their families had debts to pay, and so they sent their daughters off to pay them. How much choice did these women have? I felt a little bad for them.

But brothels in the U.S. are much different. With the exception of some immigrants, brothels in the U.S. have women that want to be there. They aren't forced to be there.

                        • There really are no street protitutes in Korea. It's a highly regulated industry in which only certain areas are allowed to run it. And I assure you, a good number of these girls are young, healthy, have good families, etc.: They simply don't want to work for $1.50 hour at traditional jobs.

Korea is not some poor SE Asian country, and most of these girls are very, very far from being desperate. Greedy and misguided? Sure, I suppose.
