And, hey, I just *have* to have the latest fashions, so here I go."

That's how it is here in growing numbers. And the kiddies on Poly might actually learn something about the 'real world' by understanding that.
What a nice rosy picture yin26 paints of hookers in Asia. I've heard this story dozens of times, usually from men trying to claim that they're really helping the hooker when they pay for sex. "These girls are just part-timers. They come from good families. They don't have to do it. They just want to make a little bit of extra money, to buy the "latest fashions. Besides, they earn lots of money."

The reality is anything but that. In Hong Kong, a john pays about US$50 for a hooker. Most of that money goes to pay for the room. The rest goes to the pimp/gang. If the girl is from the Mainland she has to pay the cost of getting to Hong Kong. There is not much left for her. She might finish a night with US$20.

In poorer countries like South Korea, the take-home pay is obviously lower.

The women who go into the sex trade are generally uneducated. They have few other options. They do it not to buy the latest fashion, but rather to put food on the table. In some cases, they are forced into it by family or gangs.

The price they pay is a high likelihood of getting a sexually transmitted disease. AIDS is rampant among hookers in Southeast Asia.

But all this information isn't that sexy. It is much better to think that these are good middle-class nymphos who love sex and just do it part-time.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that prostitution is evil. It provides work for many women. It puts food on the table and a roof overhead. But spare me the crap about how these women are just greedy and that they only do it to buy nice clothes.

    • Back to the original subject of this thread, one piece of good advice is to get yourself a pair of really cool shoes. I know this sounds weird, but when a women are scoping you out and trying to decide what kind of person you are, one of the main things they look at are your shoes. If they like your shoes, they're more likely to find you attractrive. It makes sense if you think about it. Most women seem to love buying shoes, so naturally they pay attention to the shoes worn by men.

But of course, cool shoes will only get your foot through the door.

      • SHOOT! That's been my problem all along! I have a really hard time buying new shoes, I guess I just don't appreciate shoes. I think the best pair I own are a pair of Sandshooz, they cost 15$ and I've had them for 3 or 4 years now, although I don't wear them very often.
I never know their names, But i smile just the same

        • If buying boots (docs etc) make sure to get REAL STITCHING!! I can't emphasize enough how important this is. I've had shoe store punkasses tell me to my face that 'they aren't made that way anymore'. Beware 'faux stitching'. Real stitching goes all the way though.

I went through three pairs of boots in 2 years before I got some doc martens with REAL STITCHING and they haven't failed me yet.

          • Well, it's the difference in cultural values I find interesting. And I have nothing more to say on the topic, though consider: Why are threads about killings at highschools 'o.k.' but talk about prostitution isn't? This goes to my saying that many people in the West are too hung up about sex.
In the West? I take it you've never been to Holland.

Maybe they believe that in Asia a 12 year girl, choose protistution to buy the lastest 'pocketmon' ?

              • A few nice young men are confused and seek advice about relationships and love, from their hopefully more experienced peers. Many thoughtful replies are traded back and forth.......

                Yin's response, "HOOKERS"

Don't worry Yin, Hookers will solve all their relationship issues.

Sure, there are plenty of the hardship cases, but I'm not talking about 'those places.' I'm talking about a rather recent social phenomenon here in South Korea that I guess you know nothing about.

                    • Yeah I can vouch for that shoes thing.

                      Good point.

A good pair of shoes can turn an ordinary outfit into a nice looking one.

Yeah they will always check the shoes when scoping you out.

Think about it from your own perspective, which would you rathar see a girl in, a pair a sexy strappy high heels or flip flops?

                      • That's actually pretty hard to decide... One is, well, sexy, the other is very cute... Heck, I don't care how a girl dresses if she looks good!

I'll freely admit that I know nothing about South Korea, other than the fact that they make a killer cabbage dish. But that story you mentioned is an urban myth in Asia. People make that claim about hookers in Singapore, Thailand, the Phillipines, Japan, Hong Kong, the Mainland, and so on. But the story falls apart in the face of the facts.

Maybe South Korea is the exception to the rule.

And maybe the 1-900 telephone sex companies actually employ beautiful college women rather than old grannies.

                          • I'd also recommend the movie "The Tao of Steve." Its about a guy's philosophy for getting women into bed. Very funny, but it also makes a lot of sense.

The basic idea is that women get turned off by guys who are only interested in sex. From the movie" "Eliminate your desires. If you're out with a girl and you're thinking about getting laid, you're finished. A woman can smell an agenda." So in order to get sex, you have to eliminate the desire to have sex.

Kind of ties into the idea that if you're desperate, then you'll never get a date because you're only desperate when you're not getting anything, and women don't want to go out with someone who no one else wants to date. But if you eliminate the desire and act like you could get a date anytime you want, then women will relax and are more likely to go out with you.

Same thing operates the other way. If you know a woman is desperate for a date, you probably start wondering what is wrong with her.

But anyways, the main thing about the movie is that it is funny.

                            • What can I say? It's widely known here in South Korea that college girls and younger do this sort of thing simply to buy expensive stuff. You might not like it. You might not believe it, but it's true. To say otherwise is to speak from ignorance.
